18-yr-old girl found dead at home; boyfriend arrested

An 18-year-old youth has been arrested in Nasu, Tochigi Prefecture, after his girlfriend, with whom he had been living, was found dead.
According to police, Manami Shiraishi, 18, was found dead at her apartment at around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Fuji TV reported. Police said the youth, who cannot be named because he is a minor, was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Police said the suspect showed up at the police station at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and said he had strangled the woman he lived with. He was quoted by police as saying that the woman told him she wanted to die and that she had talked about committing suicide.

These kinds of things are always happening all over Japan and the Japanese government will not do much to improve these kinds of thing in their society. It seems like the Japanese bureaucrats are more concern about starting nuclear reactors in Japan, rather than trying to fix the lives of the people that are living in Japan. I hope this 18 year old brat will be put away for a very long.... long... time!!!

yes, incidents of boyfriends murdering their girlfriends are stupendously high ONLY in japan.
the law about releasing the name of minors is idiotic. so you can release the names of minors who died but not minor who commit crimes. utter nonsense.

This is the issue with "minors" who are 18. Adult enough to live on their own (or with a partner) but yet seen as too young to be charged as an adult. Smarten up Japan.
RIP to the one that died. I can't imagine someone at 18 living with their boyfriend had a very good life to begin with but it is a shame it was taken away from her at such a young age.

After living in Japan for a few years I'm not suprised. It's a tough life for young people in respect to opertunity and landscape. To be fair the same can be said for living in a remote areas also.

Since late 80's I have been reading this kind of crimes I.e suicide, bullying, killing infants and kids, killing family members, etc etc.. in Japan. I know this types of crimes are not just common in Japan. What surprised me is in Japan, it's like a normal news you read daily with the frequency. Another I just read a 21 year old male stabbed a policeman just because he like to kill someone. I wonder what is the root of all this. There is something wrong with Japan's society and upbringing. Could it be how their parents brought them up?. Rearing and training?. Education in school? Moral and right conduct? Respect for life? Breeding environment? Too much violence computer and video games?

You are being sarcastic, right? In the US 30% of female murders are committed by husbands or girlfriends. Considering Japan has a much lower crime rate than the US, I would say woman are safer here.

No, I think it happens just about anywhere. We get the same amount of stuff like this in the States, but it isn't all reported on one news site like it is here on JT. In the States, you'll read about the crimes in your region. Crimes elsewhere might get a paragraph, but only if it's a slow news day (and you're lucky).

The traditional Japanese family gave a right to the man who was the "head of the family" to decide about the life and death of his relatives. I suppose this man forgot that Japan doesn't approve such relations any more.

Common sense tells u that he went to the nearby station which would mostly take 15 mins max on foot. I think the problem here is that the police, Japanese police, tried to do everything BY BOOK. They didn't spring into action at once.
