19-year-old bag-snatcher arrested; admits to 70 other thefts in Chiba
CHIBA —
A 19-year-old man was arrested for theft on Wednesday, accused of stealing a bag containing some 24,000 yen from a 44-year-old woman on April 22.
Police said the unemployed man, who is a resident of Ichikawa City, approached the woman from behind on his motorbike and grabbed her bag as he rode past. Police said they had recovered more than 100 items from the suspect, including wallets and credit cards. He has admitted to the theft on April 22 and told police he had stolen from people about 70 times, saying he wanted money to enjoy a few things.
Police said there have been more than 900 cases of bag-snatching in Chiba Prefecture over the last two years, and believe certain groups of youths are responsible.
