I don't care what country you live in, I want the police to do their fricken job, and if that means NOT being corrupt and knowing how to protect the average citizen, **even if that means some wise-ass kids lose their life being stupid, that's fine...
**
Were are just going to have to differ on that utterly callous statement. I do not see why it so hard to make the connection between the fact that cops are not shooting wise-ass kids and the general peace of this country. Paranoid cops who will and have to do exactly that are common enough elsewhere. If you want that, all you gotta do is move.
as my wife says. The fact they are under 20 is the free pass. If theyre a dropout this lifestyle leads to nowhere here except working the dirty markets or a Yak chore boy. What I dont understand is the gap between 18 and 20. These kids will get away clean and nothing done until 20. Theyll continue to live havoc until death or they out grow it. I did see one wipe out on his bike and I casually went outside and said. "Howd that feel dude?" with a smile..."anyway I need a beer at 7-11 you cockroach...
This is an almost daily occurance in Chicago. People here are no more disrespectful to cops than anywhere else, if anything they give them far too much respect. These punks are under 20 and will walk when they turn 20 IF they get jail time, I can possibly see an nice suspended sentence for them. Especially if they bow deep, apologize, cry tears, and beg forgiveness to the judge, and blame the mess on "stress"; provided they sign their confessions of course.

I don't know how long you've lived here or if you've been around asia or the rest of the world for that matter...
But these JN cops are nothing less than "Utterly"
Incompetent... As for the comment about trigger happy cops in states, yes... But japan virtually is without firearms... So you are comparing apples and oranges...
Just travel around a little, I guarantee you would not get away with taking a Chinese cops firearm... I'm not saying these kids deserved to die for this stunt, but it's like every other week you read about another story of JN police incompetence even more unbelievable than the one before....
I know a bunch of JN cops, they are nice people, they are fun to drink with, but I wouldn't trust them to have to do anything other than return a lost wallet or give me directions to the nearest train station
Why even give them guns... It's just asking for trouble...
Would you give your 10 year boy a loaded firearm to play with...
Then why even give these cops guns...
Please post some links to these "everyday" occurrences of cops getting their firearms stolen by teens or anyone else for that matter...
I haven't read anything like that, that didn't result in someone getting shot dead, particularly the unwitting offender who dares disarm or even attempt to wrestle a firearm away from a cop...
But pls post some of these events and prove me wrong...
In my opinion, regular Japanese koban cops have even less of a case to carry firearms than British police. Have specialist armed units which get called out when incidents happen - makes sense to me. However disarming of regular police in Japan will never happen because it goes against people's instincts especially with all the media scaremongering about crime these days.
OK, time to get the cops some hand-to-hand training. It's going to be hard on the kids for stealing the pistol but it will probably be hard on the cop for letting them get their hands on it. That's supposed to be basic training.
Yeah, I guess the koban cops probably don't need pistols. It will be interesting to see what the fallout is from this.
Wow, that is pretty bad... Maybe they will start to pair the cops up so at least two are together at all times during a patrol... it seems to be far too dangrerous for single cops.
Mindovermatter - Too many links to give, just Google "Gun stolen from policeman" like I did and you'll see 258,000 stories, 99% from the USA. Sarcasm my firend about my home town, it has happened quite a lot in Chicago though. I still get the Chicago Sun Times delivered here. You can research their archives.

Well you are right... There are well over 259,000 hits...
But if you read into any of them, as I'm sure you are aware, that when you google something like, "Gun stolen from policeman," you will get reference hits to all of the individual words... Like "Gun," "Stolen," "From," and "Policeman." Which doesn't necessarily equate to the actual context you are searching for....
Yes, I think three of the stories from the first page (which happens to be the most relevant using google) does mention a few Police Uniforms, Badges, and yes, also firearms being taken... But all of the ones I could find, were referencing articles being taken from their personal cars, or bowling alley lockers, or the like, while they were either "moonlighting," shopping or involved in various other activities... Matter of fact I couldn't find any articles that referenced the gun actually being taken from the officer while they were in the performance of their duty...
Nice try... But no cigar, it doesn't happen but once in a blue moon in the U.S. or European countries...
ptolemy, mindovermatter explained to you precisely why the search you suggested does not remotely qualify as indicator of the commonality of this event. Dodging it with "you said nothing about in the line of duty" is not working.

Mindovermatter - I agree that Japanese cops don't need guns. When do they ever use them? Why not follow the British example?

You said nothing about in the line of duty. Those are stories of them getting stolen though as you requested.

What happened to the 'security' rope for the gun?
