TanakaTaro - we are talking about Japan, so who cares if facilities are free in other countries? Not relevant.

Wibble. What are you talking about? There are loads of free / almost free sports facilities in Japan. I can pay just 100 yen to use my local municiple tennis courts.

I know many skateboarders who've put a lot of time and money into getting parks built and they use them. There's actually quite a lot down here in Okinawa (although none on Ishigaki where I live...)

Skateboards are for kids. If you want to be a man-boy go ahead and play with your skateboard.

Hardly worth a response, but the average age of a pro skater is around 26 at the moment.

If Japan recognised the value of skateboarding they'd build proper facilities which would get used and would result in less people skateboarding the streets and making a nuisance of themselves and will undoubtedly lead to more talented pros coming out of Japan.

yeah arrest the skateboarder but not the a$$hole who rides his bike down a path with a "NO BIKES" sign and then has the gull to ring his bell for me to get out of the way. i throw some mean elbows on those a$$holes, and would love to one day clothesline one of them as well.

Lack of facilities or not...he is 23 years old...hardly a kid anymore. One word is enough to a wise man...

Skateboarders come from the upper socio-economic class, and NEVER infringe on the rights of citizens by performing dangerous acts. Sorry, I must have had it all wrong.

For a start,it is indeed a dangerous act to execute in the public, especially in a crowded area. Cars follows the traffic laws, driving on the road pose little harzard to hustling moving crowds on the paveway, but like bicycles and bikes, skateboards are not designed to allow one to slide 'gracefully' through the crowd, bring inconvience and safety harzard of the user and others around the user.

way to go dude!!! i love skateboarders. if they arnt breaking a law then they arnt having fun or doing something cool. i would rather see skateboarders than all the bikers. and i have a question for (most of) you. Why do you live in japan if you hate it so much. Get a new life somewhere else and hate those people, i like it here, and you are a HATER!!!!

  • dbung10 at 02:46 PM JST - 2nd November

I like japan. I generally dont like skateborders. Most of them are up themself too-cool-for-school rich kids that are pretending to come from very different background to the one they actually do.

WILL SOMEBODY OUTLAW THE SCREECHY BICYCLE BRAKES!? I'm telling you that the sound of those neglected bicycle brakes are thousands of times more annoying than the sound of skateboards. And as far as public safety... bicyclists in Japan are far more dangerous than skateboarders.

So he gets arrested for skateboarding... what about all the people riding bikes and SCOOTERS w/o a care in the world?

  • sfjp330 at 05:59 AM JST - 4th November

This is more about noise pollution. The skateboard is loud in high decibals. The Osaka city govenment should make some of the parks friendly for skateboarders so they have safe place to enjoy.

  • diggerdog at 09:09 AM JST - 4th November

if he was violating a traffic law does that mean that all the bikes that nearly hit me everyday are also violating a traffic law? if so i want all those idiots arrested now !
