23-year-old man arrested over death of girlfriend 11 years his senior

KYOTO —

Police in Kyoto have arrested a 23-year-old man wanted over the death of his girlfriend, 11 years his senior. The decomposed body of Akane Hibino, 34, from Gifu Prefecture, was found on Aug 20 in a car that had been parked in a Hachiman supermarket car park. A nationwide search for her boyfriend Yuya Naganuma was initiated on Aug 23, after his fingerprints were found inside the car.

According to a report on NTV, a policeman on patrol stopped Naganuma in the street on Wednesday. When Naganuma confirmed his identity, he was taken into custody. According to police, Naganuma has confessed to dumping Hibino’s body. He reportedly told police that she died in July. Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.

Why on earth is the girlfriend's age so important that it is mentioned in the headline?

Daniel it adds a bit reality and spice to the story.

Headline should read Cougar gets mauled by young pup.

I think there is a subliminal message here: "Date people who are the same age as you or else".

Spice? Yes. Reality? No. Its got nothing to do with the murder, but, invariably, people will link the two. And if it happens a couple more times, that stupid chain will be forged.

Hmm, died in July he said. The original report said she's been missing since the start of the year, and that her body was already partly reduced to a skeleton. Seems he's been driving her around dead for ages, hidden under a coat, and he ran out of gas at the Hachiman and flattened the battery trying to get the car started then legged it.

The headline would've been more eye-catching if the girlfriend was 11 years his junior.

Only in Japan would a loser Otaku drive his dead girlfriend around for months to keep the memory alive.

Japan loves to play the hint card.... "look what happens when you don't have a perfect marriage and do something not normal"

Thanks for that melguy. I'm wondering why are the articles on JT always so lacking in detail these days? Why does it seem so hard for JT to provide the details that other news sites carry? We seem to get more of the real news from other posters than from the original articles. Discussion is great JT but can we have better reports please?

Driving round with her body decomposing is a bit gruesome. He obviously didn't have a clue on how to dispose of her.

I laughed at all these comments at first, but that feeling soon turned to disgust at myself... a woman has been murdered, and here we all are having a laugh out of it.

It wouldn't be so funny if she was your sister or friend. RIP.

Speak for yourself - you seem to be the only one here that finds the comments amusing.

Kudos to the policeman who spotted him on the street. My sympathies to the girls family, and the poor person who found her body, he or she must be traumatised from that experience.
