Three senior executives of a wholesale rice company in Yokkaichi, Mie Precfecture, have been charged with intentionally mislabeling and selling Chinese rice as domestic rice.
The Tsu district prosecutor's office on Thursday indicted the three former presidents of Santaki Shoji Co, Sankei Shimbun reported Friday.
According to police, the three sold 137 tons of Chinese rice in April 2013 but knowingly mislabeled it as 100% domestic in order to increase profits.

I bet this just scratches the surface.

It is a tip of the iceberg ...

137 tons? But there is no way it could have been as good as Japanese rice, right? how did this not come out sooner? I am sure it was those communist's fault. ;)

And? Nobody suspected it's Chinese? Says a lot about the claim that the Japanese rice is better. I want to know exactly who bought it, and in what products was it used, and I want to know it now...

Japanese food safety....isn't it great!

And NO rice contaminated with radioactive nuclide gets into the supply chain? Riiiiiiiiiight.

If they've been watching reports of pollution and food-chain contamination from China, pretty sure they weren't EATING the rice they sold.
I wonder if the RJ Reynolds board blazes up at their meetings. Or are they all tee-totallers vs tobacco?

Buy low, sell high.

The wholesale rice company should be facing criminal charges with hefty fines and need to take full responsibility for the mislabeling of rice and learn to operate in a safe and ethical manner in all aspects of the business. However the termination of the contract for the senior executives is possible but sometime as we know it depends on who you know or nowadays who you get to know.

The shock of this news is just too much to bare. Not really, it's most likely a common practice. Any time people believe that a food product is better just because it comes from a certain location it's an open invitation for the less scrupulous businesses to take advantage of customers. These guys were ratted out by someone on the inside, I would guess. But that's all I can do is guess because of the tweet which passes as a news article.
