Disillusioned> yep! No surprises there.
It seems that the Inagawa Kai are definitely edging out the Yamaken in the drugs racket, and it is said that they are heavily involved in the 'roppongi hills clique' and what has been going on down there. You watch this space...there is a big gang war coming up again for sure between the Yamaguchi Gumi and the Inagawa Kai and it won't be pleasant.
Unbelievable. And I agree with Wakarimasen, this is clearly not a case of proactive police work -- someone was pinched (perhaps on the "right" side of the law as intimated by both Disillusioned and Wakarimasen) and subsequently confessed. Osakadaz, you always seem to shed some interesting light on the seamy undercurrents to these drug stories. Thanks fellas!
I remember the news story from a while back (almost a year I think), the 120kg of stimulants were found by the Japan Coast Guard and 9 people were arrested, so obviously these raids/arrests just follow on from that case.
here is a link to an article, as the original story is no longer available on JapanToday.

I propose that the unit of law enforcement reporting of drugs be changed. Why kilograms? That is a wholesale unit used by international traffickers. Who cares? It should be in parenthesis. Also, 2 kg of heroin is not the same as 2 kg of mary jane.
Why dollars or currency units? We all know that number gets inflated by someone's assessment of retail prices. Then the police inflate that more. Then the economists inflate it more.
Someone should get a panel of doctors to determine the minimum dose necessary to get one person really buzzed or high, and then they should use that. That unit would mean a lot more to society and general readers. It would also enable someone to evaluate the drug in terms of local street value rather than Compton street value or Miami night club street value.

120 minus 2.4 They almost had it all sold. That was probably the private stash skimmed off the top.
PepinGalarga at 04:38 PM JST - 1st October
This doesnt add up. Does the story mean that they confiscated the 120 PLUS the 2.4 later when they searched the houses?
If they only got 2.4 out of the 120 then they are a bunch of incompetents!!
Wakarimasen at 05:26 PM JST - 1st October
Someone confessed, otherwise story makes no sense.
dolphingirl at 06:42 PM JST - 1st October
Wow! A 'real' drug bust. Well, if you only read the headline it sounds good. Does the 2.4 kg include the personal computers and mobile phones?!
usaexpat at 11:00 PM JST - 1st October
Wow 120 keys, now that's a bust. Can we spring Nori-P now since you boys have met your quota.

99% of drugs in Japan are from the yakuza, stop blaming the foreigners.
PepinGalarga at 08:33 PM JST - 2nd October
klein, this is the same as the concept of Purchasing Power Parity, but here we could call it Dazed and Confused Parity.
