Police in Tokyo's Tama area are investigating three robberies that occurred on Thursday morning.

In the first case at 12:40 a.m., two men forcefully opened the door of a parked car, assaulted the 54-year-old male driver and stole his wallet, Fuji TV reported.

Shortly after, two more men were also attacked and robbed in separate incidents in the vicinity of the first robbery, police said, adding they believe the same two culprits were responsible.

Although I am very, very sorry for the victims, I kind of like living in a country where stuff like this makes the headlines.

I feel Japanese society is now growing increasingly dangerous. Incidentally, I have just heard from my wife that there was a burglary in our neighborhood yesterday.

"the 54-year-old male driver and stole his wallet"

perhaps: unemployment or unemployable; no fixed address; boozed out; don't remember....

It is SHOCKING that such violent crime ever occurs in East Asia including Japan. East Asia is one of the safest areas in the world and my understanding is that the crime rate is low in this region. Additionally, I understand Japan has Koubans scattered around to ensure optimal safety, strict weapons laws and a culture where if one commits a crime, shame is brought to the entire family. As a result, Japan should be just as safe as Singapore. It appears that Singapore almost never has incidents like this. Perhaps Japan should emulated Singapore in such matters like this. Those suspects should receive a caning and be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Bunch of guys roughing up random victims, had the same thing in Omiya a few weeks ago. Wouldn't surprise me if it's a bunch of bored kids moving along the railways to avoid getting pinpointed. Kawasaki next then?

The way I see it, these guys are getting the early crime spree that will provide them a place for the long winter before it gets colder and at the least they have a roof and food to eat. The money is just extra splurge money to have fun before they go in for the long winter.
