What should of happened is this: 3 sumos set lose in down town Baghdad wearing only thongs.

If I were Saito's dad, I'd be prowling the sumo stables with a metal bat and looking for three ex-sumo wrestles celebrating their freedom. Whack

    me too.

The cause of death was initially believed to have been acute heart failure, leading police to determine at first that there was no foul play.

But an autopsy conducted at the request of the victim’s family later revealed that Saito had actually died from shock as a result of multiple trauma

Yo mod, Could I please repeat the "F" word many many many times? Could I please? Because my heart feels so sick right now.

So you get jail for fraud, but not for beating somebody to death.. disgusting judicial system, glad im leaving.

I remember a while back reading articles about this incident. Suspending sentence again, or jail full by any chance, perhaps cells to small to accommodate them? Young tad is six feet under and those gorillas are walking around free. I do not agree with such sentence. I would love to be their judge, and you will see what will I gave them. I don't see justice being done here and I'm sorry for victim’s father.

Ashizawa pointed out that the instructions from masters at sumo stables are considered ‘‘absolute,’

The judge has to follow the law and the constitution of the country and not the strange ideas of a stablemaster. Did the judge forgot that?

    Shame!

No more sumo for me. There is more integrity in pro-wrestling.

Thank goodness they murdered someone instead of playing soccer (football) in Mongolia. Asashouryu played soccer at a charity event while injured at the request of the Mongolian and Japanese Governments only to have the Sumo Association call him a liar and suspend him from competing. Wakanoho (a Russian) was expelled from sumo for possessing a marijuana cigarette and admitting it was his. Two other Russian sumo wrestlers were expelled for maybe having smoked marijuana at some point. However, when a Japanese sumo wrestler murdered an innocent person in a hit and run accident, he also received a suspended sentence. What is the lesson here? Is murder okay? Only if you are a Japanese sumo wrestler? The double standard and murders shame sumo more than the bad behavior and petty crimes.

its a difficult case. it is very sad what happened. however, joining sumo is a dangerous thing to do. i think it is a shame but to be that tough, they go through that training. i dont think it was right, and i think the stablemaster should have let the young guy go since he wasnt cut to be a sumo wrestler. but ....man this sux.

It was my introduction to watching sumo that lead me to learning Japanese (not your usual route) and I was a fan for years. Ever since this and other questionable antics of the JCA I am a fan no longer. For the Justice Department to accept the 'i'm just following orders' defence is a shock to any person of justice. I used to think the cultural shock between myself and Japan was just a learning process. But this I cannot accept. Sadly this isn't even news really.

paolo27th :: I'm so disgusted right now. This article encapsulates everything that is wrong with Japan.

    agreed

    Murder...

Ooh, you bad boys. But oh well, someone else told you to do it, so I guess its not your fault.

    Eh, what?

    Yay Sumo!
