KAWASAKI —
A man was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of inflicting bodily injury resulting in the death of a 3-year-old girl, daughter of the 21-year-old woman he had been living with in Kawasaki since spring. Yudai Uematsu, 24, unemployed, admitted to the charge and said: “She wouldn’t stop crying and she never listened to anything we said…we were trying to discipline the child.”
Police said that the girl has been subject to physical abuse since summer, and there were also times when she wasn’t fed for up to three or four days, and suffered from malnutrition.
According to the investigation, the girl was kicked and punched in early November, and her internal organs were ruptured Tuesday morning. The woman called for an ambulance, but the girl died at hospital. One of the ambulance staff noticed bruises on the girl’s body and called police.
Police did not arrest the woman as she is soon to give birth to her third child, but they questioned her and forwarded the case to prosecutors.

"Partner"? Whatever it is supposed to mean, isn't it demeaning to the person to whom it refers and to the readership?

Lock her up, and she can have birth of her baby in jail. By the time trial will be listed and than hearing, baby will be older, and should be placed on fosters care. Father and mother should get life sentence and never sent free. Children can be disciplined with very simple methods and not with crimes act.

One wonders whether the natural father would have been so violent to the girl? I surmise not.

Another product of Japanese sex education I see. In other countries, women are at least given a choice; either protect yourself or risk the consequences. In Japan women are given the choice of killing your baby or giving up your professional life forever. Prevention doesn't seem to be a big thing here. Also hitting seems to be very common, because kids are learning it from somewhere, I see 3 year olds hitting their moms all the time and I never see the mom grab the kids hand with a strong grip, look them in the eyes, and say "STOP". Moms let the kids control them. This morning at the preschool I work at one of the new kids refused to come in, and actually ran down the steps and outside, and the mother was out there for at least 20 minutes talking to him, trying to "reason" with him!

The pill is available for those women who want it. Though it eventually messes her hormones up and makes her 'boyish.'
Giving up a professional career? What did you have in mind? Isn't it more the case that the women are forced to work. I know of lots of ladies who wish they could get married and have kids and be a housewife rather than working outside. I know of more of this type than the type who want a professional career indefinitely. - And it is a matter of either and not both.
I see little kids abusing their mothers and I always think If I were the father and I knew about it the little brat would soon mend his ways. - My kids wouldn't dream of doing that.
It's so sad to see little toddlers crying because they want to be at home in familiar surroundings with their family and things rather than carted-off to a nursery or a kindergarten because the mother is forced to work outside the home. It's difficut for the little ones to understand that they are basically in-the-way as far as society is concerned, though they are of course loved as a member of the family.
Having kids is something which needs a mother at home in my opinion. But society has been engineered so that the children are more and more influenced by politics which wish to assume the role of parent and the biological parents are seen merely as people who feed and cloth them and raise them for the government.

Throw both of them in jail, take her kid and have it adopted into a loving home and then hang the pair of them!

Actually CMEANDU, the word "ghetto" has a longer history than that. The term for a poor area of a city is not the original use of the word. So, to say that someone is ignorant for mis-using the term, as theguy puts it, is ignorance itself. That of course is not to say memyselfandhim is not ignorant.

mindovermatter, it's sad but true and it's widespread in the rest of Asia too. I think it's to do with the idea of seeing children as property, which still persists to this day.
The only positive outcome of this story is that child 2 and soon to be born child 3 may have been spared the same fate.
mael, the side effects of the pill have been greatly reduced with the invention of the mini-pill and I'm pretty certain turning 'boyish' was never one of them.
Moderator: Readers, no further discussion of the pill, please. It is not relevant to this thread.

MeanRingo - Not sure where you getting your definition from. But every dictionary and encyclopedia states that a ghetto is:
A ghetto is an area where people from a specific ethnic background, culture, or religion live in seclusion, voluntarily or more commonly involuntarily with varying degrees of enforcement by the dominant social group. The first ghettos were established to confine Jewish populations in Europe. They were surrounded by walls, segregating and so-called "protecting them" from the rest of society. In the Nazi era these ghettos served to confine, and subsequently exterminate Jews in massive numbers.
Today the term ghetto is used to describe a blighted area of a city containing a concentrated and segregated population of a despised minority group. These concentrations of population may be planned, as through government-sponsored housing projects, or the unplanned result of self-segregation and migration. Often municipalities will build highways and set up industrial districts around the ghetto to further isolate it from the rest of the city. The continued existence of ghettos in many parts of the world is a blight upon humanity that requires resolution.
So there is no ignorance on my part. People might think that they know the meaning of the word but they have been using the wrong way for a long time.

This is made worse by so-called comedians on the TV hitting each other over the head in search of entertainment. The notorious ou-bei-ka skit for instance, which is copied up and down the country by ill-informed kids at pre-school.

This "mother" should also be put in jail! She is having kids with any looser that will do her? Her "partner" ends up killing her 3 year old daugher? Her partner is an un employed looser? She won't be put in jail because this stupid "mother" is ready to have her 3rd kid? What a mess! Her 3rd kid shoud be immediately taken away from her or at least make sure that while she is in jail she can not get pregnant ever again! I feel so sorry for that defenseless little 3 year old victim.
