32-yr-old man held for hitting father with baseball bat

KAWASAKI —

Police on Thursday said they have arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly beating his 68-year-old father with an aluminum baseball bat at their home in Kawasaki.

Police said the unemployed man, identified as Tadashi Shinohara, hit his father Jiro several times, during an altercation at about 1 a.m. Wednesday morning, Fuji TV reported. Shinohara turned himself in at a police station at about 9 a.m., accompanied by his 76-year-old mother.

The father suffered severe injuries, police said.

Shinohara was quoted by police as saying his father had angered him by entering his room without announcing himself for the past week, Fuji reported.

It's like the woman who stabbed another lady in Shibuya the other day, the son who killed his father over watching TV, the reasons given are probably just the straws that broke the camels back. There seems to be a lot of simmering resentment around here. At work and within hubby's family, I've seen people get away with some really quite horrendous behaivour just because of the whole sempai/kohai group mentality. You are expected to just suck it up to keep the whole 'wa' thing going. Sometimes, even at great emotional and financial cost and the cycle seems to just keep repeating. I was treated like a piece of dirt when my time comes, I am going to do the same mentality. A nation that has more than it's fair share of big adult bullies. As economic woes deepen and folk feel that their future is uncertain, we are going to unfortunately see more of this type of incident occurring. Japan cannot really be described as a warm, fuzzy wuzzy country with great mental health support systems.

Self entitled younger generation who seems to think its all about them, too lazy, useless and full of self importance to get a job, get their own accomodation and get a life, so take out their frustration at being nothing on their parents.

Teenagers with bad attitudes very often grow into adults with bad attitudes, hard to discipline at that stage in life, but beating your 68 year old dad with a metal base ball bat , what a worthless, heartless, gutless piece of shite.

Another case of the pent up pressure violently exploding. Probably caused by the stress of everyday Japanese lifestyle and the lack of genius empathy and compassion of living in Japan.

@Cactusjack, as human genome is about 50% the same as banana's (who rarely gang up on fellow bananas) and the common 50% is most often busy for "going bananas", your argument fails to deliver it's mark. However, your explanation is much more reasonable than what these criminals claim as such.

Pathetic man-children who still live at home should be grateful that their parents put up with their unemployed butts and provide a roof over their lazy heads. If they don't like their living conditions, they should get out and join the ranks of the homeless. This kind of behavior is disgusting.

Living with the family into your middle age is a part of the culture here for unmarrieds. This guy blew his top because he didn't like his father barging in unannounced. Is it wrong to just put a lock on the door? Even something as simple as a door stopper could have prevented this. In reality, there's probably more to it than what's been said. This was more than likely the culmination of all of his frustrations coming out at once. Hope the father recovers fully and the son gets help during his (likely) incarceration.

Well let's see, should I get a 1000yen lock for my door or beat dad in the head with a baseball bat?

What to do, what to do?

@ tokyokawasaki - yep, you're right. Sad, but true. I think most people pride themselves on not being confrontational, then with all that pent up aggression, it has to be released sometimes. Probably deeper reasons why he would do that to his own father. Maybe been bullied all of his life and just doesn't fit in. No one to talk to and listen...

Baby boomers are very annoying people and occasionally need a kick in the butt or even a few blows to the head with a bat. The important thing is that everyone has learned a lesson.
