38-year-old jobless woman detained over Osaka knife attacks

OSAKA —

Police on Monday arrested a 38-year-old unemployed woman for attacking three women with a knife at JR Osaka Station on Sunday. Two of the women sustained minor injuries. Kazuka Oyama, 38, was arrested for allegedly assaulting three women with a knife around 1:30 p.m. after her friend, who saw the image of Oyama captured by a security camera, notified police.

Police said Tuesday that Oyama complained to station staff at Bentencho station about 20 minutes after the attacks that she had been stuck between the doors of the train. Oyama has denied the allegations, police said.

Now posters may ask who was her friend? He or She? Why did he/she betray her? not true friend? Will police offer any 'cooperation' money to this friend, is this report submitted by Kyodo or source 'unknow?'

    some14some,

    not true friend?

I would have no problem handing in a friend who was out to hurt others and them self. Thats what a true friend would do. Intervention.

Did they find any evidence on her? Or was their any positive evidence on the video?

She disguised herself, showing premeditation. She ran away, showing lack of remorse and fear of capture. She is denying she did it, despite her friend recognizing her, showing she's a liar. She's also jobless, showing she is... erm, er... discriminated against, and she's 38, which is probably the true cause of her frustration, as many people in Japan comment negatively on a woman's advancing age, not the fact that she got stuck in the train doors as she says.

probably she complained about getting stuck in the door of the train, trying to flee.

i suspect depression and psychosis. she attacked vulnerable women, not even one man.

there is more to this than meets the eye.

I am beginning to think one of these knife-proof vests that the cops were would be a good clothing item for a commuter here. Do they sell them in shops already?

I fail to see how even the closest friend could be 100% sure from the CCTV pictures I saw on tv.

As the perp disguised him/herself, the only certainty is that the arms are a bit chubby. A brief glimpse of a jaw-line isn't enough.

Maybe it's her, maybe it's not. Just hope there's not a real perp out there, biding time until she's locked up before resuming activities.

dammit, women sometimes recognize the clothing that their friends wear...put that together with body size, posture, colo(u)r/chubbiness of skin and known character traits, and it's not going to be far off the mark, IMHO.

  • dammit at 11:53 AM JST - 25th June

Nandakandamanda, you may be right, but think of how many people there are in Japan, and if only a fraction of the women are the right shape, and a fraction of those have that sort of fashion sense (and that's still a lot of people), add the fact that when people disguise themselves only the brain-dead wear their own style of clothes, and then tell me the friend might not have been mistaken.

I hope the friend had more than that to go on. Maybe he/she's been worried about Oyama for some time. It's just that I wouldn't be certain of an id from that footage, even if it looked just like someone I'd lived with for years.

and 1 more. it's just boring. sometimes i think than japanese are like sheep. 1 do something stupid and result 10 stupid peoples do the same. i want to be in front of the next just give him a big big punch in his empty head

  • nandakandamanda at 05:24 PM JST - 25th June

dammit, yes, I thought the same in the beginning, but when a friend shops you, that ratchets up the odds quite considerably. The friend was probably worried she would do something stupid. I am very, very glad they've taken her out of circulation, and I hope that they have found incriminating evidence at her house (probably have, otherwise they wouldn't officially "arrest" her).

There is something rotten in the State of Denmark (Shakespeare) when the veneer starts to get scraped off and incidents of harm to others and self-harm increase. Japanese people must be under increasing external and internal pressure for these things to happen more frequently. Teach your children to leave a cushion of safety in emotional situations. Teach your children that there is a human heart, and if you can't find it, then leave Japan and travel the world until you can.
