His point was likely that most people who buy kerosene in portable jugs use it for portable heaters in winter. Nabe-cooking usually involves compressed gas canisters, a completely different thing.
could have rubbed sticks together or reflected the suns rays using a pair of glasses. He may have just yanked a smoke from the mouth of a slot jockey and used that.
Why didn't people flee when it started getting hot?
According to the morning news, the arsonist chucked the kerosene/petrol/whatever directly at people; one minute they were playing pachinko, a split-second later their clothes were in flames.
Couldn’t agree more bushlover, but I think his summary execution should be by 20 liters of gasoline and a match. Can’t imagine a worst way to go. RIP folks.
I feel that the Government should really look at Pachinko parlours and the bigger picture. They attract folk who gamble their lives away ..a lot of them unemployed if the lines in the mornings are much to go by,there seems to be a lot of crime/murder attached to pachinko and the profits of many parlours seem to end up in North Korea.I really feel for the 20 year old girl who died in this shocking act of cowardice and selfishness.
Japanese news sites are reporting he was a bitter customer of the establishment who lost his money and the apparently his marbles too as he left and returned and did this evil deed. Having suffered a large second degree burn myself I can sympathize with any burn victim - the pain is truly excruciating.
This happened to me about 2 years ago in the ward office! One minute I am updating my gaijin card, the next an older Japanese guy with a big 20 litre plastic canister full of what I thought was water starts chucking it all over the floor and splashing it at people, me included. The smell seems to take a few seconds to disperse, and then I got a whiff of gasoline and I was out of my seat and out of there! It is a REALLY scary experience because these nut-jobs are just wild-eyes - they obviously don't give a $£%£ about what they are doing.
Its amazing how long it takes human brains to react to a guy toting a tank full of flamables, then spreading it around the parlor, and finally lighting it up. Then how after all that, bedazzled by the flames, people who are not on fire don't think to chase down beat a lesser demon back to hell from whence he came.
I am sure I would have been slow to react to. Very sad story.

And those of us that use kerosene to heat our hot water? Potential arsonists?

Gas (in cannisters) is more usual for the stoves for nabe - kerosene is the fuel used in fan heaters.

Only JT posters could possibly turn this tragedy into a debate on kerosene use. What he used to start this fire is absolutely irrelevant.

Yeah I think some of the JT posters need to get a bit of a life.. You seem to argue about anything. Matches or a lighter????

Why didn't people flee when it started getting hot? Did they think they'd hit fever mode?
