IBARAKI —
Police were called to a Jusco store in the town of Tokai, Ibaraki, on Wednesday after one of the staff noticed 43 kitchen knives were missing from their display.
The knives, worth about 180,000 yen in total, are believed to have been stolen some time since Monday, as the knives were accounted for at the end of business on Sunday. A staff member noticed the knives were missing at about 1 p.m. Wednesday. Police are checking in-store security camera footage which may have recorded the theft.

One would hope this is just a fellow retailer trying to cash in by stealing another's stock. Let's hope it is not some nutter with a knife fetish preparing for a slashathon.

OMG, the thief must've had nerves of steel to carry all those out under their coat...imagine if he/she tripped, the mince pot would be a bit fuller and typically mislabeled:)

What in the world are they hunting with 43 knives? ... If I were Jcops... I would check "eBay" to see if any of these knives were collectables, and being sold 'overseas'.
Just saying, if I were a Jcop, and wanted to make an easy bust... that's what I would do!

...and, if I see something that I think I need 43 knives to kill, I am simply moving! I am leaving it alone!

I'm not sure if most of you know, but Japanese kitchen knives are one of the best in the world, if not the best. I myself use Global knives (middle of the road, at about $100 a piece). I would love to get my hands on some Misono's (considered the best!). Most Jknives are made in and around Seki, the sword making capital of Japan.
I sure the thief is admiring the blades as they are quite a masterful work of art. Why would the knife makers not imprint serial numbers on the knives? Some of these little guys have to be $200-300 a piece at least!

yep there are some really expensive and high quality knives from japan, but jusco usually doesn't sell them on its shelves, if they have them they are under lock and key. these are probably your good old 1000 yen specials, good for one tomato or a slashing then need to be sharpened again.

And if they don't find anything in-store security camera footage, Than 'BEWARE,' you will be sliced down like world economy is right at that moment. Will cops ever find the knives?" They will say: 'YES WE CAN." Someone did perhaps need money for booze or drugs or to support his girlfriend.

Awright, that's it. Time to make shoplifting illegal. When shoplifting is illegal, only criminals will shop... Nevermind.
