44-year-old man arrested for beating his father to death in Tokyo

TOKYO —

A 44-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of hitting and kicking his 73-year-old father at around 7.30 p.m. on Sunday, causing his death.

According to police, Takeshi Kato, an unemployed resident of Katsushika Ward, said he got angry with his father who was lying on the tatami and not sitting in his usual chair. Kato had admitted to hitting his father, who was suffering from dementia and had apparently not eaten for three days.
