Police in Kihocho, Mie Prefecture, have arrested an unemployed 52-year-old man on suspicion of killing his physically disabled 82-year-old mother.
According to police, the suspect, Norio Uechi, suffocated his mother Yasuko by covering her mouth with a towel on Friday night, Fuji TV reported.
On Saturday morning, Uechi's older sister, who lives in Wakayama Prefecture, visited the house after receiving a call from her brother saying their mother wasn't well. She found her mother lying on the floor of a tatami room, with blood coming from her mouth. She called 119 but her mother was confirmed dead at the scene.
Uechi was arrested later Saturday and charged with murder. He was quoted by police as saying he and his mother had often quarreled over getting her an electric wheelchair, which he said he couldn't afford, and that he had lost his temper.

Since the woman was old, doesn't her government pension cover the costs of an electric wheel chair, so that the son wouldn't have to pay for it?

Ugghhh. Another one. There will be more and more of these in the coming years. Combine a rapidly ageing population with families struggling financially and a government more willing to spend money foolishly on Olympics than on its own elderly, and you have a recipe for some pretty bad things happening.

It's been around more than 5 times when I saw an elderly being murdered by their daughter/son in Japan. How cruel. I hope this man will get death penalty for his crime.

It happens in America too. Parents kill their own disabled children, children kill their parents. If they really can't take care of them, they can take them to a hospital and say they can't; or if it's a child they can give up custody; but sometimes they don't. Sometimes they kill them instead. Maybe they think they own their relatives--like, if they kill them, then no one else can ever have them. I think it happens when people start to think that a disabled person is not a person at all, even if it is your own mother or your own child. Rest in peace :(
