If someone was unconscious and claimed they were raped, that does not make any sense as how would they know, unless one of the boys from the AMERICAN club taped it. Why is the word AMERICAN emphasized here?

It is extremely rare, for a woman to have sex, and not realize it. Girl gets drunk, wakes up in bed, and feels sore in certain places. Even if no one else is around, she knows she has had sex.

Regarding her not reporting the crime immediately. In Japan especially, women often don't report rapes. So frankly, I find nothing inconsistent with her going to the police several months later. She probably agonized over the decision, probably talked to her family and friends before finally coming forward. Very brave girl any way you look at it.

Yup, agree with those of you who question the mention of only "American Football". As Spudman says, the Japanese reports (on Yahoo) state that the pathetic excuses for male students were in several sports clubs such as Track and Field, American Football, Soccer, and Handball (in that order)... their source is Mainichi Shinbun.

Accuse 6 people at once of rape? What is the nature of the relationship between the victim and the accused? Regardless of culture, surely it takes a lot of brass to cry rape and be lying about it (though the Duke University Lacrosse players come to mind). Kind of makes me want to believe her. What about the Japanese culture? Japanese men may be perverted, but gang rape? A natural next step of manga sex culture?

and the moral of this story for girls is don't drink underage and take a friend with you as it seems 94(88) of them didn't really care or notice her missing.

She is underage! legal age in Japan is "20"! Throw these guys in jail with Bubba-Samma!

  • biglittleman at 11:04 PM JST - 2nd June

Another moral for the young men is think twice about who you sleep with even if they are both consenting adults you can still get screwed. Sometimes the women think it is fun and cool at the time but later sometimes get "Buyers Remorse" especially in the aftermath.

  • Mayura at 12:12 AM JST - 3rd June

Well....firstly, why did she even go drinking with a bunch of guys? Though it is ultimately wrong of the guys to rape her, but if she had taken precaution in the first place, it would not have occurred (unless they drag her to remote area by force).

What is the KU's (Kyoto University) policy on drug/alcohol policy in relation to sexual assault?

What is it with guys these days in football teams? In Australia, its rugby league players who carry on like this.

the only way japanese 'men' can be 'men' is in a group...alone, they're hardly masculine

Why is it that when gang-rapes such as this are reported, the "homo" angle is always totally ignored? Such activity is a substitute for homo activity.

  • Midnightpromise at 01:42 PM JST - 5th June

Typical male attitudes abound today. 1. She should not drink underage 2. She should know to always go places with a friend. 3. She should NEVER hang out with a bunch of males. 4. She now knows "buyers remorse". (My fav) 5. I kind of want to believe her. 6. There are women out there who engage in that kind of activity.

The only thing missing is the "boys will be boys" defense.

So, when should 'she' be held accountable for the poor choices 'she' makes.

If she chose to be drunk to the point where she couldn't control her environment, that would be one of her top poor choices.

-A woman is supposedly a strong independent woman until one of her poor choices seriously backfires, and then it's 'Poor me', I was taken advantage of?

Ya can'ts have it both ways and be consistent in your beliefs.

  • KingSaint at 10:21 PM JST - 5th June

Oh Japan, were rape is a team-activity.

So, when should 'she' be held accountable for the poor choices 'she' makes. - USARonin

Sure she made a mistake, but that doesn't change the fact that 6 men raped her.

If you got drunk and fell asleep in a bar only to be stabbed to death, I doubt people will hold you accountable for you poor choice you made.
