A 60-year-old man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of robbing a convenience store in Togane, Chiba Prefecture. Police said the suspect, Yujiro Akiyama, is also being questioned over two other convenience store robberies in the area on May 30 and June 4, TV Asahi reported.
According to police, Akiyama entered the Save On store just after 1 a.m. Saturday and threatened the male employee behind the counter with a knife. He demanded money and also stole some magazines and other items.
He then left the store but was picked up by a police patrol a short time later. He was identified through store surveillance camera footage.
Akiyama, who is unemployed, was quoted by police as saying he needed money because he was finding it hard to make ends meet.

If he was "finding it hard to make ends meet" what tf was the point in stealing some magazines?

Now he will get free room & board on our dime as well as the 10 police officer's pension/bonuses that are working on his case as we speak.

and I have a feeling he is NOT alone... Some of us are having a pretty hard time making ends meet...

Can't be too smart to have hit 3 stores in close proximity to each other. And taking the magazines, as oikawa said, rather defeats his argument. Perhaps he was becoming caught up in the excitement of his thieving & couldn't help himself...better for all he got caught when he did.

Some pretty heartless comments on this thread.
Many people are going through tough times these days and this '60yo, unemployed' man might just be one of them. This article makes me sad not angry at this man.
Shame on those who put the boot in without knowing this man's story.

I used to live in Togane and I've used that shop many times over the years . The staff there are always very friendly and helpful. I just hope the sfaff that work there are ok . Hope this guy gets some jail time . Lots of people find it hard to make ends meet when it comes to money but they don't go out robbing Convenience stores and people at knifepoint. Sad excuse And a sad excuse for human being.

Car seat manufacturers , plastic mold factory and Obento boxing operators, are in high demand all over Saitama,Chiba and Gunma , all are offering a dorm bed and minimum wage with O/T. No excuse for anyone to offend in this manner.

Yep, but it is those who are not paying into the National health care scam that are the cause of all the woes the system faces.
