62-year-old man arrested for abducting 8-year-old girl in Osaka

OSAKA —

Police on Monday arrested an unemployed 62-year-old man on suspicion of abducting and confining an 8-year-old girl in his truck. Police suspect that on May 22 at around 3:55 p.m., Toshimitsu Matsushita approached a young girl who was walking alone in Osaka Prefecture’s Fujiidera City.

Police allege that Matsushita opened the passenger side door of the truck and lured the girl inside, and then drove around with her until about 5 p.m. before setting her free.

According to reports, the girl returned home and told her mother who immediately called police. Police found Matsushita, based on the girl’s description of the vehicle, and arrested him. Matsushita has admitted to the charges, police said.

I am glad that this girl got away unharmed!

62 years old! The sicko generation strikes again. The Japanese prisons must resemble a geriatric clinic. - It just shows how lonely many of the gerries are. I'm glad the girl wasn't harmed although, as yet nobody knows if she was interfered with or his what his intentions were. Hopefully he is just a lonely old man in need of a bit of company from a child.

This is what I call an "abduction", unlike the other story with the 13-year old who called her parents to ask for cash.

Good thing the local cops did their job quickly this time, for once.

No good thing the girl was able to tell the police the name, number, address, and last known spot to the police.

We need to do what Iran did back in the early 80's, gather up all the murderers, rapists, child abusers, etc etc..and execute them all. These types of people just don't deserve to be walking around.

Hopefully this was just a "harmless senior moment", and nothing bad happened while she was in the truck. My grandfather would have those right before he went to Crabz Nursning Home. They really should have rule about letting people fly a plane at that age... I never seen so many scared people in all my... but I am getting off topic... She got in the truck willingly... so that also bothers me that this child is very trusting. Hopefully she will have more sense to just keep walking next time.

Now why don't they do this in other countries - much cheaper if they all admit the crime.

Maybe she liked being driven around for an hour by a kindly old man? I'm glad it didn't happen to my kid but I'm not sure what the crime here is.

  • dennis0bauer at 03:08 PM JST - 26th May

so why did he do it and was the girl hurt in anyway?

Something about illegal confinement, no? Im sure you´d get a tad more upset if someone locked your kid in his car and drove around with her, even if he does nothing more violent than that.

Thgis freak should be locked up for life or until he is too frail/senile to be a danger anymore.

This por girl and her family must have been terrified. Japan has gone to the dags, thank god these crimes don't happen in my town.

    Weird...

thank god these crimes don't happen in my town.

They do (at least in the U.S.), but they don't get compiled into a national website like this one. When compiled like this it accentuates the bad and gets applied to over a whole country's population when actually only a small number of whackos are the ones doing it. A quick look at CNN reveals the following "gems" of news in America today:

(Rome, GA) Dad Charged With Tattooing 3-Year-Old Son

(Salpulpa, OK) Baby Found Alive In Sapulpa Dumpster

Japan is no worse than anywhere else.

most probably an old pedofile who should be in prison. These stroies make me feel sick just imagining these crazy people preying on children. no mercy for them.

they do. just because the media doesn't report everything doesn't mean it didn't happen.
