68-year-old Sendai woman stabbed to death; son missing
SENDAI —
Police said Wednesday they are looking for a 41-year-old Sendai man after his mother, with whom he shared a house, was found stabbed to death.
According to police, the woman, who has been identified as Michiko Otsuka, 68, was found by her third son, 38, who visited the house at around 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday. He told police he found his mother bleeding from a stab wound to the chest. A bloodstained knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was found next to the body.
Police said that they are searching for the woman’s eldest son, who they believe may have some information about the circumstances leading up to the murder, but that nobody has been able to contact the man yet.

getting a place to live in japan isn't cheap. i know a lot of people who sleep at internet cafe just because it is more affordable.

While people sleeping at an internet cafe is cheaper than having a place to live, this guy clearly was not sleeping at the cafe if he was still living at home with Momma.
He most likely was still living at home just because he never left, but there is also the possibility that he had moved back home for some reason, or he lived with his mother because she couldn't live on her own (needs physical assistance for some reason)....but from what details are in this article, it sure makes it sound like he just never left home and the fact that she was stabbed and he is missing sure looks suspect...

As long as we're indulging in pure speculation here, may I add mine? At 41, the son is a mid-level bucho who lives at home because he's never found the right woman and his parents rely on part of his salary - their pensions being too small - and his schedule is such that he only sleeps at home and spends the occasional Sunday sleeping all day. For that he doesn't want to spend a lot of cash on a small apartment he doesn't have the time to keep clean.
Pure speculation, of course, because this less-than-detailed article doesn't give us much in the way of facts.
