What was this guy doing with an assault hatchet in Tokyo? Aren't they banned under the Japan sharp objects (Danger, danger!!!) laws? How many more will die this year with these dangerous weapons in the hands of once law abiding Ojiji's?
I really hope my student has heard about this. She is 64 and her husband is 72 and has alzheimers. He has beaten her and knocked her to the ground several times, but all her friends keep telling her she has to "gaman" and he is her husband, it is her duty to stay.
I am really scared for her. How long before he goes a step too far? I get that he is ill, but even so, even her own children are doing nothing to protect her.
Glad to see that he did not have a banana clip with 50 more hatchets he may have killed more people.....I do wonder how many more people he would have killed if guns were legal to carry here in Japan?
What should they do with him in his age? His life is over, but he did prefer to get out of the way his wife first, so that she can build their new home upstairs. Even if you ban such instruments, it wouldn't help to get hold of them. 'And the winer is: 'HATCHET.' Someone said people don't kill people. What about 'HANGING?' Isn't that people kill people? And 'Terrorists and Wars.' Isn't that also human killing another human?
Lock him up for life the nasty bugger. This is a terrible thing to do. Even after decades with my bone idle , beer swilling husband , i would never dream of doing something like that.

KiraKira25, Give the Japanese version of this article to your student, please. Tell her in no uncertain terms that this will be her next, if she doesn't turn her hubby in and get him and his violence-inducing Alzheimers behind bars where he belongs!
BurakuminDes - already planning to use the English version in her next lesson! She is a proud woman, and all I can do is make sure she knows I am here for her, and try to give her the mental strength to make the break - going against 64 years of the way she has been raised.

A hatchet does seem to be an odd implement to have around the house in Japan. Too bad his solution was violence.

I'm just wondering what in hell could've prompted that?!
