73-year-old woman found dead in Saitama apartment; husband missing

SAITAMA —

A 73-year-old woman was found dead in her Urawa Ward apartment on Wednesday afternoon with strangulation marks around her neck.

Police said the daughter of Setsuko Degawa, 73, went to the apartment just before 3 p.m. after receiving a call from a care worker who said the front door, usually left unlocked, was locked on this occasion. The daughter entered the apartment and found Setsuko lying on her bed. She called an ambulance and they rushed to the scene, but determined shortly after their arrival that Setsuko was already dead.

Police said a note, believed to have been written by Setsuko’s husband, Ryuichi, 77, was found in the room, but did not divulge the contents of the note. Police have not been able to contact nor find Ryuichi as of yet and are continuing their search for him.

Setsuko had strangulation marks around her neck believed to have been inflicted by a rope. Police also said that she could not walk freely and that her husband was taking care of her.

if he didnt want to be with her anymore, then he could have just ran without killing her.. he is on the run now.. didn't have to kill her, did he.

Odds are he's hanging from a tree limb in a distant forest.

maybe she wanted to go this way, you know, death with dignity. The old fella was looking after her and at 77 that cant be easy. Not condoning it, but able see how this sad case could happen to normally moral people. Breaking points are lower than we perfect forum watchers at JT like to imagine.
