Welcome to Japan. The land of paranoid schizophrenics.
Pivot at 04:32 PM JST - 4th December
I don't know if you can call her paranoid schizophrenic, or maybe you just aren't clear about what those big words mean. She had an aim, and as far as anyone can tell, absolutely achieved it. She's certainly wrong to have done it, but it's got nothing to do with paranoia or schizophrenia.

RIP (Rest In Prison)!

I am sure she would have been happier if they gave her more time in jail than the four years. At least food and shelter guranteed. Above all, there will be a lot of inmates to pal with. It doesn't get better than this, does it?. she hit a jackpot!
BBLeo at 06:49 PM JST - 4th December
Now the accused must be very happy. Free security, bed with blanket and food. Perhaps she will be better in jail than outside, especially now for Christmas. How many more is around like her?

79 years old, says it all. Gandhi said a society can judge itself by how it treats its animals...how about its old folk?

If you remember the story she wasnt identified by either victum because the knife doesnt make any noise. Silent killing is much more effective then those loud guns that give away what your doing. Goes back to my point about people who want to kill/hurt.. Doesnt matter if they have a gun, a knife, a toothpick, or what ever.. Its the person who decides to attack someone and its the person who kills/hurts someone...
Sad story to say the least.

Sorry to disagree with you Pivot. But schizophrenia by definition is a brain disease causing a degradation of brain tissue. This in turn can cause a person to become obsessive or even dilusional. Having a definite "aim" in mind no matter how unrealistic or criminal is very typical. And for this lady to have attacked people that looked "happier" than her definitely casts some light on the schizophrenia theory.

I think it is a little unfair to label a society as sick due to the actions of one desperate individual or individuals. Are you telling me that no awful crimes have been commited in your country, or that everyone where you are from is an morally sound, upstanding member of society? Tokyo is a huge city, law averages means your going to have some screwed up people living there, but its the same for anyother major city in the world, be it New York, London where ever. Granted, Japan has its faults but I dont think it is any worse or any better than any other country.

ah leo,
> especially now for Christmas
yes. a 79 year old Shinto/Japanese woman who survived WW2 gives a toss about Christmas.
noborito at 12:56 AM JST - 5th December
Only 4 year????? If a 20 year old stabbed a 79 year old, would they get only 4 years. I think not.
romulus3 at 01:11 AM JST - 5th December
noborito,
you went for the rope but not the circumstances. If a 20 year old did this and said "I have no future" it is really just a bunch of self serving BS. If a 79 year old, who lived through various earthquakes and 2 nuclear bombs etc says "I have no future" then we must wake up to the ungodly mess that is LDP Japan.
romulus3 at 01:52 AM JST - 5th December
sure. once you fathom the full weight of your crime, you will not believe that you are the guy that did that. Never give up hope. something always awaits us around the corner. it may be a long corner sometimes but just hold on tight to everything you have. The world will turn and you can get where you want to be. Just never never give up. none can dictate your true path by evil or bad example. your triumph rests in your ability to make a difference for good.
