bamboohat , maybe he just wants a roof over his head and jail provides that. I am glad he was not the psycopatic violent type.

but she wouldn’t have a bar of it,

this was my favorite part. Don't ever try to pull one over on obasan, she's not buying it. Good for her.

I am not sure it is good for her - she got lucky this time but it so easily could have gone anther way and we could have been reading her obituary :-(

Why was there a bag containing ¥140,000 in the kitchen on a Sunday morning and did the perp know it was there?

    He's lucky she didn't have a gun....

good that it seemed all pretty quick; quick thinking of obaachan, the daughter and amazingly the police.

She shoulda tazered him. Just for coming in univited.

How about he just gently places her in another room and continues out of the household. What a knucklehead.

Aren't you glad he did though? He could have beaten her to death and didn't. Thank heavens.

This would never have happened if Japan had a social welfare system.

Hopefully Katsu-san has learned the error of his ways. And hopefully he gets shunted into some make-work project rather than 5 years for theft.

This could work if people overcome their conservative attitude towards unemployed youth.

as for the bars of iron, he was trying to sell them.

If only Japanese males had as much intestinal fortitude as this lady.... And how tough does this guy look to his mates, he`s an embarassment to his relatives and friends, stealing or not.
