the irony is appealing. I saw a nutcase guy in a department store dressed in a JH girls uniform. He had scraggly long hair and was butt ugly. You could see a few samurai ancestors shopping about the place wanted to put him down while others avoided him apart from the staff who had to serve him politely. I openly laughed and pointed at him.

I really don't get this fetish thing. What on earth is it that drives someone to have a fetish? Does a fetish require some kind of slight insanity?

A fetish doesn't have to be criminal, you know. Fetishes are normally healthy, just not for this guy, apparently. Frankly, I don't care what he does in his private life, he can enjoy putting on a bear costume and covering his gf in honey, as long as he leaves teenage girls alone. This case is more about the harassment than anything else. No matter what you may like, it's never okay to give someone unwanted attention. Leave me alone and stop calling mean just that. I don't care if she's wearing a uniform, kimono or a burlap sack, if a girl says leave me alone she means it!

@betterdays - yep, the million dollar question... I would imagine that they became aquainted on a mobile dating site, or that she volunteered her phone number to him when he approached her. I would lean towards the latter as he used a public telephone so as to avoid his identity being revealed. He appears to have called her once a week-ish for a couple of months. She is a high-school student, he was dailing from a public phone. I do not condone his behvaiour, however I would think that the girl and her parents would need to have a talk about the friends that she is keeping. They may also want to advise her on how to use the call filtering functions on her phone - especially the function of the button that has the little symbol of the handset off the telephone base, in particular what happens when you press this when the phone is ringing, and what happens if you don't - she need not have answered his calls 10 times between July 9 and Oct 10...

That said, it was right to report this to the police, as it is possible that he may have stalked her if his communication channel was cut off - which is a serious problem and goes unreported in most cases (and not acted on by the Police in the majority of cases), until an assault is committed. Perhaps this was avoided in this case.

I'm glad they caught the creep before he tried to get the uniform by force, which you have to assume could have been the end result of this harassment. I'm wondering if there was any way the Jcops could have traced the numbers this guy used to contact the girl, and if there was any surveillance video footage in those places. It's a shame it took so long to track him down and take him off the streets!

HONESTDICTATOR... there are many many movies and books about fetishes. I can think of about five or six really famous ones. La Cage aux Folles, Crash?(James Spader?), Last Tango in Paris (?), Fight Club (!), Pulp Fiction (?), Tampopo. Who watches Superman movies for the plot? There are novels of course, where the whole theme is fetishism. And minor characters in all kinds of works. These things are a lot more common than you would think, especially among English guys apparently, LOL. But anyway... just the thought of a fat hairy 43 year old guy in a sailor costume makes me laugh out loud... pigtails anyone?

Took a walk through Akihabara a few days ago. There are whole buildings full of fetish clubs. They seem to do well, and the atmosphere on the street anyway seems tame. The police seemed very attentive. I know for a fact that people can be exceedingly strange and still be safe and reliable people.

Certainly, these things have to take place between consenting adults, and just very simply, anyone having a fetish that involves young people in any way is mentally ill if they pursue that. This man is sick. What he did is wrong. In Japan especially, I think there are legal ways he can get his jollies. He should leave the kids alone.

Is that the guy who is about 60 or so, with facial hair, who likes to dress up in a female police officer's uniform with a blonde wig? He is world famous. I have seen him on sites from four or five countries.

When I first came to Japan, everyone talked about how Japanese people could not be creative. Wow. That has changed. A pet theory of mine is that lifestyles in Japan are so constrained that some people do anything to claim some identity. It might explain a lot of crime here. It certainly explains the guys who dress up like Elvis or Freddie Mercury or Sailor Moon at least once a week.

Where did THIS guy cross the line? For me, it was the first time he called a high school student without her parents' knowledge to discuss something private. That is how old fashioned I am. That is also how unimportant the fetish angle is to me. As far as I am concerned, if he had called her to talk about his bathtub, he needs a visit from the police.
