This came up on a Facebook post a few months back. From what I remember, Amazon Japan was very slow to respond to complaints and the offending materials were not withdrawn in a timely manner. I wonder why?

Child porn capital of the World.

It's all about the money. Many people are paying for this, domestically and internationally, and the publishers make money that they use to lobby the politicians. That's why Japan has been so slow.

Not really, Amazon Japan has been selling since day 1 in Japan, I had a friend that worked at Amazon Japan and she told me the dirty little secret is that porn is the number 1 seller on Amazon Japan, but it wont show up in searches unless you type in the title exactly.

Is it just me, or does it seem that Japan is the most perverted country in the world when it comes to sex?

Yeah. Lots of pervs here. I was shocked when i 1st got here too!

Soaplands, love hotels (where the age of the girl isn't verified upon check-in), abundance of sex shops, porn mags @ every convenience store, enjokosai dates, chikans, panty snatchers . . . . You name it, its here. All tailored for male clientel too.

San Diegan, and yet looking at the average Japanese person, one often sees social awkwardness and -- probably more than any other country -- late or life-long virgins, as both men and women either don't have enough interest in actual sex, or find it too awkward and difficult to actually do.

Though people, do check your biases. Not like anyone would, on JT.

PeterP,

The topic isn't normal relationships, its child porn/porn, two completely different things

Another one for the "Only in Japan" file

Gotta agree with Peter Payne on his comment about making generalizations. GW, he was making a comment on the comment made above his and was making a correlation of reality (the real sexual acts) vs. the ridiculous japanese porn industry in that most people actually don't have a lot of sex but maybe some read/watch porn to make up for what they aren't getting.

It frustrates me when people make a generalization about people from japan when they haven't experienced both sides of the spectrum. Of course there will be perverts, but there will also be people who aren't into the japanese hentai culture. I've dated a few guys from japan and they didn't partake in that part of the culture. Please stop stereotyping guys. We are way too old for it.

Don't forget to go after the purchasers also Amazon... but I doubt they will.

It's simply amazing how child porn possession has only been made illegal recently. Boggles the mind.

Meanwhile, on Japanese owned websites, business has picked up to make up for the difference, now that the big, evil, foreign company is out of the child porn business.

"We couldn't get child porn merchandise up on other major shopping sites but we could on Amazon," the daily quoted one of the vendors as telling police.

So, the arrested vendors confessed to the police that other Japanese internet retailers would not allow distribution of child pornography, but this subsidiary of American corporation allowed that illegal act. Unlike simple possession, distribution of child pornography has been illegal for years in Japan.

The US corporation needs to enhance the compliance standards. Exploitation of children should not be allowed.

CMDeane,

Haha I hope you do realize that that makes for an awful lot of pervs, its pretty prevalent & the porn industry is MASSIVE, hint it wouldn't be massive unless there were a massive amount of customers, just saying.

I have been on these isles for quite a while, while clearly all Japanese aren't hentai there are lots of pervs, its not a generalization

They dont really sell child porn. Just ecchi stuff

Christine and PeterPayne are right! Not ALL Japanese are pervs!

What i don't understand is why sell it on Amazon? Usually they try to hide it, not make it for everyone to see.

MCraig,

Where did anyone say that all Japanese were pervs?????

GW, I share your logic. Social awkwardness + massive sex industry = a lot of pervs.

But it gets scary when just watching doesn't do it for them anymore. Especially child porn.
