Someone has not done their research on Miyazaki, otherwise they would not have used him for a sympathy vote.

I'm quite sure they did but they couldn't find their sympathetic poster child other than Miyazaki using the "insane" angle.

Correct that. They also cited Masashi Mutsuda who killed his boss and store manager of a SM club, stuffed them in a wooden box, filled it with concrete, and dumped it in the ocean. Mutsuda subsequenly stole 40 million yen from the club and assumed ownership.

nigelboy, just a question. Do you (or does anyone else) know the name of the Japanese guy who served something like 35 plus years on Death Row before being freed as he was innocent all along? He's a campaigner against the death sentence and a living example of the kind of errors that the Japanese legal system makes. All legal systems get things wrong of course, but this guy is the best known one here I think.

You break the LAW you have NO HUMAN RIGHTS. I like how the human rights campaigners want the Human Rights of the criminal respected, but did that criminal respect the Human Rights of the female he Raped, or the child he raped or the Old couple he murdered? Screw human rights, break the law then do not complain if you are hung by your neck with a rope or put in a 3foot by 3foot cell! I fully support the death sentence and think Pedophiles, Rapists, Drunk Drive that kill people and MPs should also be HUNG until dead!

A murder or pedophile is worth to kill... maybe a pedophile is even worser. He (or she, of course) is destroying the life of a child and will affect all of the child's future... It's like beeing murdered... There's no mentally sickness about pedophiles, they are all able to control their life, if they only want...

Blackops, monoflow etc., the problem is that the Japanese system does that to innocent people, not just the guilty. One day you could be the one falsely accused, spending up to 40 years waiting to hang for a crime you had nothing to do with.

The DP is only supportable in cases of absolute certainty. 23 days of incarceration, unrecorded "interviews" and a confession given under mild torture is the Japanese norm, and guilt is often not proven. Then the courts had a conviction rate as high as 99.97% until very recently and still around 97% now.

Support this if you want to, but it really means you support the murder of innocent people through your blind faith in a highly imperfect and often corrupt justice system. I don't care that they hanged Miyazaki, but they also hang the innocent. That is not acceptable, and the DP should be abolished until such a time as convictions are always 100% safe.

Patrick: 100% safe convictions is a statistical impossibility. Where ever humans are involved, fallibility is a given.

  • vultor at 12:33 PM JST - 2nd June

Somebody should slam something up Amnesty's ass.

So you "applaud" the inevitable death of innocents (at the hand of a justice system rife with forced confessions, no less) as long as it's not you or someone you know on the docket, I presume.

  • Hopfly at 09:26 PM JST - 2nd June

    TheGeneral:

Death itself is inevitable. No, I do not "applaud" the death of innocents but a perfect system is a fantasy. Japan's system is as effective as any "free" countries. Finally, yes I would be rather cross if I were " on the docket". If some of the people I know were... perhaps not so cross.

  • TokyoHustla at 11:33 PM JST - 2nd June

johnnyboy, Miyazaki killed 4 little girls and ate parts of them. Yet you support Amnesty's position that he should not receive justice. Now I see what side you're on.

A perfect system is indeed a fantasy. But you do applaud a system that murders innocent people. I can't fathom how the "inevitability" of death makes this at all acceptable.

We all die sooner or later, so it's acceptable to end the lives of some innocent people sooner rather than later in the pursuit of "justice"? Really?

As for the system's effectiveness, I've not seen any research that the death penalty even serves its supposed purpose as a deterrent. If you are aware of any, I'd be interested.

  • TheGeneral at 10:56 AM JST - 3rd June

    . . . any research that suggests the death penalty . . .

  • Makkun70 at 12:29 PM JST - 3rd June

Blackops, let's hope you don't ever find yourself in a J-court, because they'll be a 98.2% chance of you getting convicted, based on your forced confession, whether you were guilty of rape or not.

  • Makkun70 at 12:30 PM JST - 3rd June

    Organized lynch mobs, lovely...
