Armed man robs Shinagawa post office of Y1 mil
TOKYO —
A man robbed a Shinagawa post office of one million yen on Monday afternoon, police said Tuesday.
According to police, the man approached a female employee, brandished what appeared to be a gun and demanded money. He fired a shot beore escaping on a bicycle with about one million yen in cash. Police said there were four employees and three customers inside the building at the time, but no one was injured.
Investigators found what appears to be a bullet hole in the ceiling just above the counter where the female employee was standing.
The suspect was described as being between 50 and 60 years of age and about 170 cm tall. He hid his face with a knit hat, and was wearing a white collared short-sleeve shirt and gray trousers.

It appeared to be a gun that appeares to have caused a bullet hole in the roof. It appears that the person got away on a bicycle with what appears to be 1 million yen. It appears that his bike hauls has becuase it appears that he got away.

Local media is reporting that it was a tourist from China on a runaway shopping spree. They apprehended him buying a JPY 900,000 yen Nikon camera at Bic Camera in Ginza. When asked why, he said that he wanted to buy something "Made in Japan".

LOL @ S7ro9kGm3aQ. I've carried half -500,000 yen- in my pocket once (had to pay in cash). It's not that difficult to fit twice that into your pockets. Or have you never seen that much money at one time?

Seems to me a bike would be the i ideal vehicle.
Did you expect the guy to hop into a vintage Ford or Dodge, with driver, waiting just outside?

There are on average of 3 Post Office robberies everyday in Japan. A pretty good percentage of them are caught by the cops, "hero citizens" and Post/bank staff. Ever see those orange balls behind the counter?? They are trained to throw those at robbers when they exit the building and their get-a-way bike, car..etc and get marked with dye to make identification easier. Its amazing to know quite a few robbers have been caught because of the dye splashed on their clothes and/or car/bike as they made a get-away. Post Office workers and Bank workers are taught passive resistence (moving slowly to get money, make excuse
we need time to open the money box...etc.). This guy makes the news because he had a gun, which probably scared the crap out of everybody. He got the money fast and got away fast without the hassle.There was one case a couple of years ago where a guy walked into a bank with a fire-extinguisher and walked out with over 20 million yen in cash.
