Arrested man charged with more than 400 bag snatching cases in Yokohama

KANAGAWA —

A 26-year-old man, who had already been arrested for snatching a 54-year-old woman’s bag in Yokohama in July, told police he had been involved in more than 400 similar cases in the past 10 years, police said Wednesday.

Mamoru Saito, 26, was arrested for allegedly attacking the 54-year-old woman from behind on a motorbike in July. He knocked her over and stole 8,000 yen. Following his confession about the other cases, police have filed papers with public prosecutors on further charges.

I wonder? Did the Jcops prompt him to confess to the other snatches? Like "we have 400 unsolved purse snatching cases on our books, you did all of these didn't you".

Mamoru Saito, 26, told police he had been involved in more than 400 similar cases in the past 10 years, means he began his 'career' at the age of 16?

Now the streets should be a lot safer since this guy has been arrested. 400 purse snatches...that must accounted for almost all of them in yokohama!

Are you kidding me and the whole WHORLD? Why it took police so long to nab him? Will he get 'Doctrine' for the 'WORLDS' best bag snatcher?

and the cops didn't catch him, that was a citizen's arrest, as far as I know. Did he ever tour Japan? Recently my friend lost her bag this way in Sapporo.

400 purse snatchings ? Funny, this crime wave was never mentioned in any of the major, or minor (JT), news outlets !

Mm, I guess it's not as many as you think since it works out to less then once a week over that time period ... assuming he took holidays, etc. ;-)

Wow, he is so honest young man with a long years in his ,almost successful, career. Whats he gonna get for his horrible crimes? A year, two and slap on a wrist?
