Arsonist suspected of torching 40 cars, motorcycles

TOKYO —

Police in Tokyo are on the lookout for a suspected arsonist after a string of car and motorcycle fires in Higashimurayama.

According to a TV Asahi report, there have been more than 40 reported cases of cars and motorcycles being set on fire this year. Police were quoted as saying that the fires usually occur between dusk and dawn and are similar in nature.

The suspicious nature of the fires and the similarities between them lead the police to suspect a single arsonist may be responsible, TV Asahi reported.

    TOKYO —

Police in Tokyo are on the lookout for a suspected arsonist after a string of car and motorcycle fires in Higashimurayama. Wow! Maybe now I understand why last week there just police wall to wall on the streets around Higashimurayama, not that the would actually stop an arsonist mind you, they are not that stupid to go start fires right in front of the Japanese cops, not like over in Paris, France?? But maybe, just maybe the cars that this guy is burning are owned by idiot BOSOZOKU?? Those low life losers who go around making lots of noise in both cars and motorcycles?? So, if they were owned by idiot no good LOUD scummy bosozoku members, good on this arsonist! The Japanese police seem to be afraid of these fools, man would I love these idiot Japanese bosozoku to try and make noise in MEXICO! My imagination can just start to become creative in what my amigos in the Policia Federal de Mexico would do to these guys! Well I do hope no innocent peoples cars were burned.

Would be nice to know his M.O. Kerosene? Gasoline? Molotov cocktail? Those super dangerous lighters they just banned?!

Good question Papa will preach!! My guess good old kerosene you can get it anywhere, and TAKE IT HOME, but gasoline is for your vehicles, and maybe illegal to run around with cans of gasoline right?? Lighters?? LOL, I really really doubt those lighters could do anything to cars and bikes.

The guy must either be completely stressed out, jilted or simply too much time to kill....

The same happened in Berlin not so long ago. A copycat?

It's not only the fringes of society that harbor all kinds of aberrated individuals. They can live right next door holding 9 to 5 jobs, walk the dog in the mornings, take out the trash and look perfectly normal, until they strike at night.

And these incidents happen everywhere in the world. Hard to catch these perps. In this instance less than one case a week. The criminal bides his/her time, plans carefully, chooses a target and strikes. Only round the clock vigilance or just luck could catch him/her. It's an area of 17 km square with 150k people, so no easy task.

My daughter lived in Higashimurayama for a few years. Glad she is no longer there.

The MO has probably not been made public to prevent copying?

    Foxie, Berlin???

This kind of arson attack happens frequently throughout Japan. You find someone with a grudge, often entirely misplaced, wantonly damaging property. Someone in your area will go out night after night pushing an icepick into car tyres, or scratching car after car with a key or a nail. Then you get attacks on the populace, such as the random slashers as they walk along the street. Arson is satisfying to this type of character though, as he/she does the damage and then watches from a safe distance as the flames go up.

If it was ILLEGAL to equip your vehicle with NOISE on PORPOISE... am sure there would be LESS destruction of cars and especially the two wheeled sofas idiots think are COOL when NOISY.

Yes. But if you are lucky the jokers just steal your wheel caps.

The jokers are active on JT, too. Voting down everyone who has an opinion, valid or not, on any subject. Is the Higashimurayama pyromaniac among us?

Say it LOUD: "The jokers are active on JT, too. Voting down everyone who has an opinion, valid or not, on any subject. Is the Higashimurayama pyromaniac among us?" 100 agree...and btw I tried to vote for Elbuda Mexicano and found his voting option locked.

What! My voting options are locked?? Do not worry Tamesu san, we must express ourselves to the fullest, in this free land, Japan. I do not agree with arsonists, very scary, some did burn houses near my area of Tokyo, awful to see such thick black, nasty smoke at 10 am! They make sure we go off to work, school then they would come by, find the dirtiest house and light it up! But thanks Tamesu san, I hope I am still not locked out of being voted up or down.

Needs to be caught before this person escalates the arson to residents homes

ps Ebuda I had no problem giving you the thumbs up, your post in relation to arsonists in your area are indeed valid Arsonists are dangerous people and though in your area it was presumed the inhabitants had left their homes unoccupied, the arsonist could have been wrong resulting in serious injury or death to the occupants

Oh if the police would not get three sheets to the wind in their Kobans during the night. Then perhaps they might catch him.
