What kind of question is that? Where have you been? Have you ever heard of the Jihad?
Take a look at the koran:
Lo! the worst of beasts in Allah's sight are the ungrateful who will not believe. (8:55)
"When you meet unbelievers, behead them until you have made much slaughter among them" (47:4).
"Slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them, and confine them and lie in wait for them at every place of ambush." (9:5)
Continue at will. He was a kuffar in Taliban land (and buddhists are ranked even lower than Christians and Jews), and the Taliban needs no particular reason to kill him.
"
We must go after these guys until they are all brought to justice.
"
Your comment is so typical, and so wrong. No, we must not "go after these guys". These guys are simply pious believers who take their holy book literally.
What we must do, if we (as a civilzation) want to survive is go after the religion/ideology that fuels them, and take it head on. We did that with Nazism, we did that with communism, and we did that with Japanese imperialism. Nazism, Communism, and Japanese Imperialism were not defeated by declaring them "ideologies of peace", wich are only misunderstood by a couple of radical misunderstanders.
News reports this morning are saying the signs are it was a kidnapping for money that went wrong. Nothing to do with the Taliban or jihad, just ordinary criminal scum.
Japan should send aid workers anywhere in world. There is just 2 countries japan should not send japanese aid workers, this afghanistan/iraq at the present moment.
For this just to be a kidnap for money scheme, that would imply that those who kidnapped him must have had some insight on the worl abroad and know that Japan would deal with them on this. A sort of implied sense of internationalism would be needed.
I hate to say this, but the average peasant in Afhhanistan is probably not that worldly, and probably concerned with just trying to put whatever it is they eat on the table to survive for another day.
However, a good Taliban commander knows how to play the strings of kidnapping and blackmail to get the right response.
I would guess the J-gov knows where these guys are from, and trying to downplay it. I had a discussion with my wife, and even though this guy was just trying to help out his fellow man, she somehow brought up that in an indirect way, it was the US fault since we forced Japan to support us in the war in Iraq/Afg. So I can see why the J-gov would try to change the view of the public on what was the cause of the kidnapping.
Like I told her, US policies aside, these people will take anyone that is different from them and either kill or hold them hostage. From what I understand, the guy was fluent in the language, had been there for at least 4 years, and his bosses thought that he would be the least likely to be kidnapped since he was able to become trusted by the locals. And yet, as I explained, those savages killed a peaceful man for nothing. Go figure.

Who are 'these people'? The 700 local police and villagers who joined the search for Mr. Ito? The local villagers who asked that a funeral be held before the body was returned to Japan, so that 600 of them could attend and pay their respects?
The evening news showed a 'suspect' who is now saying the reason for the killing was to create the impression that Afghanistan was a dangerous place, so that foreigners would go away and stay away.

Cleo, did you notice that the guy who said that spoke perfect English? He was obviously a CIA plant.

Should help the LDP get through that refueling bill.
Public sentiment is turning towards a full-scale invasion of Afghanistan.

In the interests of the USA eh?
I like how these Taliban scum use the USA as an excuse for killing in the name of God! Come the day of reckoning, they will be in for a huge surprise!
RIP Ito - now let's send 300,000 Japanese troops to clean up the mess the US has been unable to!

Riiiight...and we're supposed to believe that, just lie back and be fat and happy. The government issuing outright lies to the media.
