Body of newborn girl found floating in Harumi Canal in Tokyo
TOKYO —
A baby girl with her umbilical cord still attached was found floating in Harumi Canal in Tokyo’s Chuo Ward on Thursday morning, police said. A student conducting maritime training drills noticed the body floating on the surface of the canal just after 7 a.m. and called police.
Emergency services dispatched a rescue boat and the infant was rushed to hospital, but she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Police said the baby was naked and floating face down when she was discovered.

And we bitch about how life treats us unfairly and moan about how we have to pull ourselves up outta bed to go to work when this little angel had mere minutes (if that) in this world!!!! God bless you in more ways then i can imagine little one. I hope the person that did this to you is thrown into the deepest pits of hell.

Yes horrid. Reproductive health? Right to choose? Choice? May God help us to see the value of all life and welcome it. Help us to create structures that will help the poor Moms who was driven to such extremes. I pray the Mom receives some support and counseling. Such a burden to carry.

I also mean structures that support life so that these things do not happen.

Human garbage, if that is what people think of each other.

I also hope the mother receives support and counselling, while doing a life term for the possible murder (drowning) of this child.

Noice! What can you say to something like this? Sad to see 15 minutes of fun and nine months of gestation ending like this. I hope the mother is found and she gets the help she needs (or the treatment she deserves).

words cannot express the mixture/confusion of emotions i am feeling @ having read (only) the headline of this story. maybe it's time to create an "akachan posto" @ every train station/convenience store/love hotel in japan. the mortality rate of newborns in japan is approaching african/medeival proportions.

Baby could have been still born to a very young and panicked mother.

There are so much irresponsible people in this World. People have sex around, and are not responsible for their actions. Rest in peace little one.

Yelnats, of course that is a real possibility.
Japan needs to seriously encourage adoption and remove some of the scorn directed at these panicked and unprepared young women.. or older women for that matter. If this is a murder, the mother did a monstrous thing, but most-likely she wasn't born a monster.

another reason all Japanese need to submit to DNA profiling.

oh no, It just gets worse. This is the kind of stuff that really makes me give up on humanity at times. Poor baby girl...Don't you just wish you could have been there to scoop her up in time and take her home and care for her?

How horrible! I see my own loving daughter, and can not imagine how anybody could do such a mean thing to an innocent baby. RIP little baby girl!

It is sad to read such story. All I can say: 'MOTHER OF THE BABY SHOULD HANG IMMEDIATELY.' Can such little bay walk all the way to the 'Harumi Canal?'

the mother was quite possibly still a child herself

There's no way to know the situation behind this tragedy, unless the mother is located. Quite likely she is in need of medical attention herself. I would not be surprised to find she's a young girl who was too scared to admit to being pregnant due to social stigma and pressure. I imagine the first thing that went through her head wasn't, "Look at this precious life," but rather, "Oh God, what do I do now?" She probably didn't even view the child as a person at the time, but as a terrifying THING; the easiest answer to her problem was to throw it in the river.
Tragic really doesn't begin to sum it up. Tragic that such a young life never got to grow into a thriving adult, and tragic that the mother -- whatever her story -- felt driven to such extremes. I don't excuse her actions and find them as heinous as anyone should, but at the same time, unless she's found and appears truly unrepentant, then the public shouldn't excoriate this mother. Mourn the child, treat the mother, and educate the population so this kind of tragedy doesn't happen again.
Rest in peace, little one.

I hope some responsible person notices this suggestion and takes action. Jpeople need help and I guess its time they admitted it, rather than hide their faults. So much fuss about Kusanagi stripping but serious crimes are covered.

The same thing nearly happened where I live. A young girl went into the emergency room and delivered her baby, who was premature. The baby stayed in the hospital and the mom went home. But the mom never returned to pick up her baby. I'm glad that at least she went to the hospital to give birth, as I wish this baby's mother had. Such a sad story. I hope Japan can do something about this.
