Police in Shimoda, Shizuoka Prefecture, said Saturday they have found the the body of a second newborn child in the home of a 28-year-old woman.

According to police, the woman, identified as Isumi Takano, who works part-time at a bar, gave birth to twins at home at the end of September. The first body was discovered on Thursday and the second on Friday.

Takano was quoted by police as saying both infants were hers and that she couldn't take care of them.

Police were first alerted by a call from the local welfare office on Thursday. The welfare officer told police that Takano, who had looked heavily pregnant during a recent visit, came to the office again on Thursday for consultation, but there were no signs of pregnancy.

On Thursday night, police visited the woman's home and found the dead infant wrapped in foam. The second infant was found wrapped in plastic and placed in a box.

Takano lives with her mother and two other children.

Police have released no information on the children's father.

RIP little angels. "Police have released no information on the children’s father.", because the woman isn't sure who the father is.

I know for young people in Japan it is not cheap for birth control pills, but some sort of protection has to be used. She is a mentally ill person and should be punished for the crimes and receive mental health help after. You can not just throw way a baby.

Two babies...but the judge will "understand" and give her a suspended sentence as long as she agree to not get pregnant again. She's got two other children to "care" for after all.

Yikes, she gave birth to twins without any form of medical assistance?

Downvote me all you like, but I think fathers should be named and shamed too, where appropriate. It takes two to make a baby. Even if he had nothing to do with the deaths, part of the shame should be made public if it's appropriate, e.g. "The father, Taro Tanaka, had no contact with the mother, as he left her as soon as he found out she was carrying his twins."

And will she see jail time for the murder of two infants? Not likely. Not in Japan. Both she and her mother should be imprisoned, but the judge will likely say that the other two kids should not be separated from a mother's love, as is usually the case (or at least they get a very, very small sentence). RIP to the little ones. Hope this woman never has any more.

And I thought there's always an option for abortion. Not that I'm in favor of it. I'm not that economically off, but I could have received the babies with joy. Her other 2 children must be put in public care. If she's living with her mother, then what kind of a mother she has. Very saddening!

Just to have twins is a huge blessing for many women and some pay big money on treatment to have twins. I am wondering, is the only baby hatch in Japan in Kumamoto? I'd recommend one in every large city in case the trip to Kumamoto is expensive.

I agree with inverse. All these cases the just blame the mother but the father is responsible for this act too. Too many guys just leave the woman with a shirane- attitude thinking it's now up to the woman to deal with it.
