SAITAMA —
A 17-year-old boy was arrested on Sunday for attempted homicide, accused of stabbing his father in his head and arms while he was asleep. Police said the father woke up around 2 a.m. after the boy stabbed him in the head, and fled his bedroom with his son running after him, continuing to attack him with the knife. His father was able to call for help, and when ambulance staff arrived at the scene, they found the boy standing in a daze with the knife in his hand.
The boy has admitted he intended to kill his father and told police: “I thought taking care of me must have been difficult.” He said he bought the knife with a 9 centimeter blade on the Internet, and that it arrived the day before the attack.
A classmate from the boy’s private high school described the boy as very active and had strong leadership skills, but a staff member said the boy started to come to school less and less, and was absent for nearly half of the second term.
The boy and his 57-year-old father lived together by themselves in Sayama City. The father’s injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

I think the boy just needs a "hug" or a "role-model." That's all case closed.

For all those who keep scratching their heads as to why they think this is ONLY HAPPENING IN SAITAMA!!!! It happens EVERYWHERE IN JAPAN, but reporters are messing with your minds!!!! They prey on adults who have the mind of a child and think that just because they only print stories from Saitama, it only HAPPENS in saitama, and therefore is incredible news. Grow up people.

Wow. This OLDER kid is a punk. He waited to until the middle of the night to try and kill his dad. I mean where are they learning to kill and then act like it is someone else’s fault. I mean he knows he is 17 and nothing is going to happen to him. I mean where the standards are. If any kid can try and kill their parents and get away with it there is something really wrong with this society. When are the law-makers and government officials going to realize that the kids today are not the same as they were when the law was written? I mean kids and pimp other kids and they just get a slap on the wrist but as soon as you reach 20 your thought that you have learned everything and you can accept responsibility. Things here need to change soon or there is going to be a generation of kids that are going to be untouchable. These OLDER kids need to understand they there are consequences for their actions. I mean if you don't want to put them into Jail/prison then release the family name. Make it public who they are and who their families are. Maybe that will make parents more responsible for their children.

Why would a 17 yr. old attempt to kill his father?

I agree with Smith.

Poetic Justic if the father now afraid of the son strangles him one night as he sleeps. "I always hated the burden of responsibility my son brought into my life... so I ended that burden last night officer."

His father indulged such behaviour in his son (don't want to go to school, fine, you don't have to &c.), instead of raising him in a nurturing and disciplined environment. Packing your kid off to private school doesn't make up for the education and guidance a parent has to give to his own children. The father is as much to blame as the kid.

I wonder how you know this family's situation oreoreda. Pure speculation. Welcome to JT and the world of conspiracy.

Wow, this shows the boy clearly had anger problems with his dad more than anything else. had he simply wished to kill him, he would have poisoned him or something. If you wanted to kill a sleeping person with a knife it would be easy just to slice the neck in the right spot rather than stab and stab and stab and chase and stab some more and only leave non life threatening injuries. I suspect the mom left and the boy blames the dad for mommy leaving him alone with the alcoholic wanker. Or maybe he was posessed by some girl that is still angry because she died before 20 year old wear a kimono day and drink by the station.

I don't know who translated this article but I've been informed that the boy used a dagger/dirk, a double edged combat stabbing knife, of the kind that was banned last year after the Akihabara incident. Most real "survival" knives have one sided, often serrated on the back, blades that are much larger than 9cm in length.

Bushlover, I read an article on the Tokyo Shinbun website, there is media other than JT out there. He became a hikikomori, buys a knife online, deliberately attacks his father while he sleeps. What's your explanation, 'Because it's in Saitama'?
bamboohat, the mother of the family died from cancer 12 years ago.

What a bizzare story... It sounds like there is much much more to this. Something must have been going on in that house in order to force this kid to not only NOT go to school but to come up with this plan to order the knife purposefully to stab his dad with it. And why order a knife, and not take one from the kitchen? That also makes no sense to me...

"Survival" knife, LOL.
Saitama, LOL.
