Bleeding hell, geezer breaked the law, and he must face the punishment. Simple as that, innit?
Should've hidden it better though, cos from what i heard them Japanese polic eis divvy and wouldn'T find it. That's beside the bleeding point. Cant do the time , don't do the crime.
British or no British he should be punished with hash sentence. Did he really think that he is back in Britain to get away with it? A teacher is an example for our young generation, but this guy was only thinking of himself and perhaps even damaging brains to other students. Keep him behind the bars for a while.
Police are going after the easy targets and crimes like this victimless. They should really be focusing on serious crimes that cause significant suffering, but it seems that would be too hard.
What else is new? Another JALT member busted for drugs. This makes 5 so far this year. I still remember the one member who burned down the hotel at one of their conferences. Interesting story.. Thanks JT!
According to my friends he was being monitored. If that is the case I wonder if he was aware of his legal rights at the time.
How would that have made a difference.
Why wouldn't he have just eaten the drugs to get rid of the evidence, since it was such a paltry amount. Using these drugs is not a crime, just possession.
I'm with the others. The guy had it coming. Cush job doing nothing, partying on the weekends like a rock star... what did he think was gonna happen to him?
BBLeo. In the UK he wouldn't get a custodial sentence for this, or even go to court. Most likely he would get a police caution. Even though it's not a conviction, a police caution would come up on a Criminal Bureau Record check if he applies for a job in the UK, certainly disbarring him from teaching.
I hope 'hash sentence' was a typo and not an attempt at humour.
It's common knowledge that Japan has harsher penalities than other countries when it comes to illegal drugs, even small amounts. This guy should've known better. Besides in Japan you can drink your ass off and it's totally acceptable, so why not do that instead of risking your livelihood with the drugs.
We have a show in America called Imprisoned Abroad or somethin' like it.
With the exception of folks kidnapped in Uganda or the Philippines by rebels, it's all about American and British dummies who mess with drugs in other countries. Dummies... Don't bother callin' the Embassy.
Well if its his first offence, and his vissa is in order he will likly get a month and a half, and or a fine. If the school revokes his visa( if they are the sponsors of) while hes in the slammer then he will be rearrested when his time is searved for overstay and then deported with a no enrty for 5 years.
Now back to the crime. I was watching the news and how many billions of yen have been bilked out of people, and the best the cops can do is stand next to a ATM, yet they have the time to chase down victomless crimes. Sometimes I wonder why I still wake up in this backasswards place.

A quick internet search reveals that Kevin is an English teacher.
What a surprise.
Another English teacher who thinks the rules don't apply to him.

Silly boy. Everyone knows (or should be aware) that Japan comes down hard on possession of even small quantities of drugs.

Come on! That little puny amount of stuff isn't even worth a line on the gossip page. Big deal.
