This is just a scratch on the surface. Japanese (sex) tourists are notoriously known to visit South-eastern countries in large groups.

I see no mention that the brothel was punished at all. If this really were the tenth time, one wonders... well... it seems likely that they kind of look the other way and take the money until some point, at which time the investigators get called in.

Anyone want to speculate on what point that is? The girl complained? The girl had some fallout with brothel management? Some extortion attempt failed? Japanese guy ran out of money or irritated the brothel?

I was under the impression that this crime was being stamped out almost everywhere. I am surprised that someone could do this so many times before getting caught. It is pretty repulsive stuff.

Cambodia has discovered a new source of income.Surely, they could not catch the other nationalities who are loietring around those places? While punishing these offenders, it would be very good if the Cambodian authorities punish the locals who are operating these places with underage children.

I think, womanforwomen (interesting name that), you will find this is not a "new" source of income, but has been going on for years and years, and that Japanese men are the biggest clients in these places - they are notorious for their nocturnal activities in SE Asia. Other nationalities - Aussies, Americans, Brits, Germans, Canadians etc - have been prosecuted too. Rightly so.

I think what triple888 means is that these pervs get together, swap information, maybe travel together and certainly go under the radar. I am sure (s)he doesn`t mean they book an underage sex tour through HIS!

It is well known and documented across the world that sex tourists to Asia swap information, sometimes travel together and/or meet up in their destination.

I do not think that is what Triple888 meant. There were tours years ago that had been arranged specifically as sex tours. The J government found out about them and shut them down hard. People might still believe that they exist, and they don't. I want to hear Triple888 clarify the claim, but thanks anyway, kirakira.

As far as information swapping. Yes. THat kind of sex tourism stuff is alive and well on blogs. I think we all know that. Believing that Japanese men are so much more into that than men of other nations is a non sequitur. In fact, I would say that use of English language would provide more opportunities for that kind of communication among English speakers, and J men are less likely to move through those media for information.

Cambodia is a very corrupt country. This Japanese man is a pervert, but Cambodian men, the police, the army, the government etc..are a bunch of perverted, twisted greedy bunch too. I feel so sorry for the poor children born there, in such a corrupt country.

Southeast Asians are known to visit brothels in Southeast Asian countries in far greater numbers than Japanese sex tourists. The problem isn't sex tourism; the problem is the purchase of underage women.

What I was really saying is that it is a well known fact Japanese and other nationals have been going to Cambodia for illicit sexual activities for a long time. It surprises me that suddenly Cambodia has decided to punish Japanese nationals. If I remember right, the previous offender as reported by JT paid a measley sum as fine. Could it be that while there are many offenders and offences, these isolated incidents are just an eyewash where as big monies are passing through under the table? If Cambodian authorities really care that much, it is not difficult to clean up these places.

It sounds like to me the man was punished because he didnt go through the brothel to get a girl but instead talked to her on the side. The brothel found out and reported him. Especially since she was removed from a brothel for rehabilitation.
