Marijuana however has always been illegal in Japan, all the way back to... er, 1945.

Too many cookies spoil the pot as they say...or was it the other way around? By the way, I was riding on Toyoko line today and saw a HUGE sign along the way around Mizunokuchi headed towards Shibuya which reads HEMP IS OUR FUTURE, or something like that. Can someone living on that line confirm what the heck is it? A shop dealing in the stuff or what?

Acting the fool. What is it with Canadians and 'weed'?
canadianbento at 06:12 AM JST - 14th March
This Jai West is a "Canadian Actor"? Never heard of him! It sure looks like he is "DUMB CANADIAN ACTOR". He would get a better "high" if he smoked "Canadian Horse Manure". Give him some time in the "Klink".

Yang... Canadians grow the best pot in the world... that is what is with Canadians and weed. Furthermore, Canadians are known to have a rather laissez fair attitude towards the use of such innocuous and obviously ubiquitous (since it is all over Japan now too) substances. Good on them. More mellow people leads to less violence and war. I will admit, it is stupid to try and bring pot into Japan while the hate mongers still run the show, so I suggest people send away for the seeds (those are legal in Japan) and grow it high and grow it low. Japan could easily could beat out Canada when it comes to growing. Great outdoor weather and wonderful technology to propagate the indoor variety. Too bad they are Yankee Puppets.
One final question for someone who seems to know it all likeitis... in Japan, do they charge him for the weight of the cookies or the amount of pot that is actually in them?

Too much persecution against marijuana. I bet eating it slows the release compared to inhaling too.

i heard from a friend, that since THC dissolves more efficiently in fat molecules, hash brownies pack a stronger punch and for longer time that if you try to inhale. Fats take a lot longer to process, and the THC is released over a longer time more efficiently. anyway, my friends could be wrong.

Jai West a Canadian ?
yawmin at 01:35 AM JST - 17th March
i like your post mean ringo, but i beg to differ that canada has the best pot. also, im sure theyll charge him the weight of the cookies, to fully prosecute him. I agree with you on everything else. While media are preocupied with "the war on drugs" other things go on undetected. I think its a smoke screen for more sinister motives. . .

MeanRingo: Wise words, am thinking of that myself... I just have a feeling getting seeds from the Netherlands would put me on a watch list. Anyway, This West kid will lose his bubblegum contracts, get the fine and fingy prints with nice mugs at customs.

ps... His real surname is Japanese... French N Japanese...
winniebhoy at 09:31 AM JST - 17th March
he should have known better thats for sure.probably not the brightest bulb on the tree. Canadian weed is the business though by the way. any potsmokers know that its good and not a big deal but you should definitly not bother with it in any country where they take it seriously its just common sense really.

Dear fellows- are you all so willing and ready to swallow and faithfully so, the stories Fuji Tv and their intrepid crime fighting friends are dishing out. Isn't this a bit odd. Wait- smuggling cookies? To share or to sell? To whom and to where? To what end? The cookie aisle at your neighborhood grocer? Really? Cmon JToday cmon. Will take more than a few cookies to become a career criminal. He did not send anything to himself as far as I know and would not have done so under any circumstances.
Seriously, from where I sit it looks as though the tv news and officers must be in some kind of know just because this has been reported on their official news network. Despite this it appears that the charges havent yet been filed in the real world. I have heard it said that to build a case, when in Japan it is more often an exercise in generating a conviction rather than an effort to determine the truth(s) of the matter.
Last I checked, alleged is not convicted. Despite how the law works over in Japan, many of us eat this up and then clean the plate. Once tv news is out the trial is over and defamation is a non issue.
So far only Yawmin speaks some sense. This case is unusual but hardly shocking. Tell me who profits? Maybe start by questioning your friends at Fuji Tv whose motives are- well what exactly are they selling you? I have only interest in the real story here because I know Jai. He has worked like no one else to get to where he is in Japanese pop culture today. He has a family and friends around the world who support him right now when he needs it. Look, I realize many may take issue with my anonymous p.o.v and side with Fuji tv but I digress- S'alright though, hope some of us are now a little better informed as to what is possibly going on here. Please continue. As you were...

This is sad. I notice there are a lot of marijuana busts in Jp in the winter.....what's with that?
A lot of people here are just taking out of their ar$e, like some guy recommending the guy be hanged for his 'crimes'. That is a retarded mentality. I bet you are against abortion and gay marriage too....

Jai West happens to be an old friend of mine and it really sucks that one of his dumb friends in Vancouver decided to send him pot cookies. The Japanese are pretty hard core on drugs and unlike Britsh Columbia, Marijana is considered a first class drug and penalized to the fullest extent of the law.
I have heard that because Jai is a semi-famous actor in Japan (and a foreigner as well) the cops want to make an example of him.
The police supposedly found two grams of pot in his apartment and with the media being way out of conrol they are calling him a drug smuggler.
Two grams is nothing in Vancouver and I seriously hope that everything turns out okay.
Being a fellow Vancouver actor myself ( and growing up here) I know that even that a don't smoke green myself, it's not considered a big deal here at all. In fact, I think it's better than alcohal since it makes people chill out and fights are rarely had while being stoned. (Too much effort of course...)
Damn Jai, if your reading this... I'm praying for your ass.
