Rare.... unknown...but would be nice to know if they were locals or ? Hey some14some where are you?

Probably locals since "gaijin" was not sprinkled generously in the "report".

OMG,

@MoBass4u - You are so right. Had there even been an inkling of a "gaijin" connection it would have been mentioned in each paragraph.

Generally, Japanese don't attack gaijins unless provoked so there must be more than the reported story. They wrote on their website that their frontman was attacked but no reason or motive was written so I will be waiting for more details.

this is terrible news for fans.

Mikihouse: not at all Three against one sounds like typical young punk attacks. Happens against whoever they meet; old men, guys walking solo, gaijin. Whoever. If this dude wasn't a celebrity this wouldn't make the news so Mikihouse what do you mean generally?

At least they will be little bit more famous now.

They were supposed to go on for Summer Sonic tomorrow. Shame.

No mention of who first laid the attitude on.

Doubt that he was attacked out of the blue, that is very rare.

3-1 are not that bad odds for a rocker, can be won. :P

Unknown band member attacked by unknown assailants. Next! Lord, I love August.

If you go into the wrong type of bar, the Japanese will attack without provocation. In fact, they'll provoke you then attack whether you react or just try to leave. They could have walked unknowingly into a Yak bar, and got a beatdown as a result.

"Whibley was attacked in a bar"

I'll bet alcohol was involved.

Define "provoked."

Simply asking a Japanese DJ to turn the volume down can get you killed (Scott Tucker.)

And on one of my few visits to Roppongi, a Finnish mate of mine started chatting to a Japanese girl in Meuse. Next thing he knew he was on the deck after having been brained with a nearly full beer bottle by a chinpira.

Seeing that there are many types of bars in Osaka, they could randomly have walked into a place that was a private members club and problems could have occurred when they were refused entrance. Or it could have been a prostitution-type of bar, or a yakuza hangout. Unfortunately the article doesnt elaborate on this. Personally there are many bars i try to stay away from if i dont know the system of that particular bar. Even in my homecountries Denmark and thailand there are several places i wouldnt go.

I am not AP i.e. not Associated with the Press, better we wait for Kyodo's in depth news :)

lol at yakuza hangout.

PROBABLY was off his face, acting like a rock star and pissed a few people off. Even non semi famous rock stars can do this. Who would have thought!?

fyi... the guy is 5'4 and 130 lbs giving most chinpira a good shot.... Osaka sucks for a pub crawl and yes there are loads of No Foreigner bars mixed in. I bar hopped during WC 2006 and every other bar, a guy came to the door and made you leave and then the eigo profanity starts. I give this scene a good chance. Japanese usually fight in numbers... like a pack of school girls in the Bronx-wild punches, choking and pulling hair and great at cheap shots. They tend to pull out their keitei and dial up their mates down the street. Other than that- it is still rare. I will go with chinpira and the above.

"Whibley was attacked in a bar"

One more reason to stay out of bars.

What's this? Some kind of amateur anthropologists convention? Doen't it ever occur to you that Japanese people are individuals with their own personalities?

no mate- its just you, and try not to incorporate 2 comments into one. TA...

He sure got Sum41 didn't he? As for him acting like a rock star can do anything attitude, it's likely as I've seen this with a Scottish band. And as for the chance he was attacked by several Japanese guys this is likely too as it seems to be the modus operandi of the local guys as they are a bunch of whimps alone.

According to a witness, EVER LAST's back, SOCIAL DISTRUCTION's Snake, HOUSE OF PAIN's Vocal and one other black guy ganged up on him and beat him. You can check out the witness's mixi diary here...

If you go into the wrong type of bar, the Americans will attack without provocation. In fact, they'll provoke you then attack whether you react or just try to leave.

You could say this about any place in the world: substitute "the Japanese" for your local populace. Still sounds kind of foolish and ignorant when you do so though.

@my2sense It's actually three comments, mate. Clearly separated by three sets of quotation marks. Do keep up. Ta.

The source I gave above is not a trustworthy source. The other diary was all right winged nationalist stuff.... Sorry about that...

Are you basing this statement on some sort of fact, or is this just what you believe to be true? Please clarify.

Yeah, Japan is safe!!!!!...right!!(?)! <----- best carry the crew with you and pronto things when shaking with a mix!!!!!

Not really, unless your in a biker bar in the US pretty much all bars are a safe bet when you enter them.

I met this guy, along with Avril, 5 or 6 years ago in a bar on New Years Eve in Toronto. A friend of mine had to tell me who they were after we talked for a bit at the bar waiting for drinks. Avril is tiny and he's almost as short- they were like munchkins, and I'm not even that big myself but I towered over them. He seemed like a nice enough guy, but some posters above are saying fellow rockers laid into him which is more understandable than locals. He must've done something pretty crappy as I could never see myself throwing down with someone so small- he and Avril were just way too cute. Not a fan though.

sorry but that's hardly noticeable at first :(
