Car crashes into police station in Gifu; driver says he wanted to die
GIFU —
A car crashed into the stone steps leading up to the entrance of the Kani district police station in Nakaedo, Kani City in Gifu Prefecture, just after 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
The driver, a 57-year-old local resident, was arrested on the spot. He was quoted by police as saying that he had intended to kill himself. He suffered a light head injury.
According to police, the vehicle had entered the front parking lot of the station without any sign of braking, which led to its collision with the steps. There was a kitchen knife and another knife in the car, and there were cuts on the man’s hand.

Excellent. Drivers here are so bad they can't even crash themselves to death. and I guess he drove into the police station as a form of confession in case he had actually managed to off himself.

Why can't people find a nice old fashion bridge to go off? No fuss no major mess to clean up. I think that each time my train is delayed.

Well, that gives "suicide by cop" a new meaning.

Great story! I guess he must like the police, it is way easier for them to solve suicides like that right in front of their doorsteps.

"The driver, a 57-year-old local resident, was arrested on the spot."
You think? I'm sure the police STILL tried to find a way to ignore it for a few minutes.

What a selfish idiot, if you want to die don't take other people (that don't want to die) with you.

Suicide is bad enough...it always hurts the people around us..., but I really can't understand people who need to endanger others with a suicide plan.

No mental health system = desperate acts to get attention.

If he really wanted to die, he would not crash his car. Jumping off a building would be better and probably less chances of hurting others.

Cliffy: The weapon of choice in Japan is a fast moving train. Doesn't 'hurt' others directly, but sure makes the wait for the train a pain in the ass.

Wouldn't it've been easier for him to get in a warm bath and open his veins.
He could pre-arrange for the Chinese delivery guy to discover him so he wouldn't rot and stink up the apato and annoy his neighbors.

"The weapon of choice in Japan is a fast moving train".
I actually talked to a Japanese psychiatrist about this a while ago and he said that preferred method here is hanging. Suicide by train apparently is seen as a cheap method of getting back at society (causing inconvenience to others, i.e. by delaying their movements) for some percieved wrong.
Anyway, I think this guy was just out for some attention. He could have killed himself quite easily with those knives. But instead he rams his car into a place that has people inside with the ability to save him (first aid knowledge/equipment and ability to contact hospitals and/or paramedics very quickly).
And ramming the steps of all places!! Seems like he really wasn't good on the idea side of things either.

Perhaps he's watched too much TV and wanted to commit suicide by cop? It happens in the West on occasion. A suicidal individual will deliberately provoke the police to get them to use lethal force, which contrary to popular belief is NOT the first course of action for police agencies. If that's the case in this situation I pity the poor man for thinking the cops would do anything more than stumble around and slap him in cuffs.

anxiety, loneliness, depression or maybe his wife left him...or maybe the current recession here affect him...anyway this country must focus more on social life development to experience more enjoyment in life....
