Chiba man gets 8 years for sexual, physical abuse of his 4 children

The Chiba District Court sentenced an unemployed man to eight years in prison Wednesday for sexually and physically abusing his four children. Hajime Akiyama, 47, was convicted of sexually abusing his two daughters, then 18 and 10, in February at their home in Chiba and of beating the younger daughter and his two sons, then 11 and 7, with a metal baseball bat and other objects.

He and the four children lived by themselves. Akiyama told investigators when he was arrested earlier this year on suspicion of beating the children that his conduct was for disciplinary purposes. Public prosecutors had demanded he be sentenced to 10 years in prison.

My GF was rapped when she was 6. When she told her parents they somehow managed to blame her for getting raped and nothing was ever done about it. She said its common in Japan. So if we look at it in this way, 8 years is a long time for this dog considering most men get away with it.

I think 8 years maybe enough depending on how big his sons get in that time, they may want to have a "chat" with their monster dad andthey can't do that if he is in jail now can they. Niceforward thinking by the courts :)

I notice that no poster has suggested that this man needs access to therapy. In Japan, redemption is considered an important goal of judicial sentencing.

Unlike the US system where child molesters are the lowest form in prison, Japan prison he will live well all 8 years.

As far as needing help, yes he needs help, but statistics show most child molesters repeat after jail time;:(

A friend of mine in England took her father to court for sexual abuse, and he was given 18 years, without parole. This sentence is a mockery to these kids. Let's hope someone has sense enough to give them a new identity and a new life. Because God knows, their current lives are ruined beyond imagination. I hope this sicko gets what he deserves in prison!

8 Years, what a total joke of a sentence. Hell, why not just sentence him to time served, and award him custody of his kids again. Yeah, that makes about as much sense as this.

Sounds like dysfunction right from the start. Sounds like he snapped. No money, no job, no wife, and four hungry kids one about to go to college. If the goal was to make a man mental, it seems like a great way to do it. People in low situations act low. Sorry if I am not surprised or outraged. Cavemen did some horrible things. It had a lot to do with the fact that they lived like cavemen.

The best thing to do might be sentence him to job that pays well. 8 years in the pen is not going to help anyone, least of all the children. But hey, let he who is ready to adopt one of these kids cast the first stone at me if you disagree.

When people live like pigs, its a mirracle not everyone is a molester, rapist and murderer. When you have to keep working and working to survive, and the last time you a whole day to be alone with yourself was when you were 9, there is no soul left. Only the mechanical repetition of life immitating movements. I bet if people in japan had the holidays and working time of western europe, they would be more laid back. Of course even in the most laid back places monsters abound, like these austrian guys a few months ago.. Poor kids, i hope they are not caught, when they try to put their minds right with some lsd or something
