Chiba police officer arrested for causing accident while driving drunk

CHIBA —

A police officer has been arrested in Nagareyama City after he hit another vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol, injuring the other driver, prefectural police said Sunday.

Sergeant Michimaro Kuroi, 42, of the Manseibashi Police Department, was arrested for causing injury with a motor vehicle just after noon on Sunday. His vehicle collided with another compact car while he was attempting to back up on a road.

The driver of the other car, a 37-year-old man, sustained minor injuries from the collision. Kuroi has admitted to the charges of driving under the influence, testifying, “On the previous evening I drank a lot of chuhai.”

It seems these days that even police can not abide by the law.

Regardless of being a cop it just proves that anybody who drunk the night before is still drunk in the morning and should not be driving. How many train drivers, taxi drivers and bus drivers do you think show up for work drunk? 70%? If Japan is serious about curbing drink driving they have got to get their finger out of their bums and start breath testing everybody and any time of the day. But, that would take the cops away from their more serious work of checking bicycle registrations and taking photos of illegally parked cars to build up their monthly quoter of cash intake, wouldn't it? Pathetic!

I totally disagree with Disillusioned. I don't know if you drive to and from work everyday like some of us but I can tell you that RBT already causes a lot of inconvenience to ordinary motorists. This is a matter of self responsibilty.

Waitasonecond.... if I drink too much Chuhai the evening before, then at noon the next day I might have a hangover, but still drunk?

Do they have a slower metabolism over in Chiba, or what?

Police are the same the world over - above the law (at least in their little heads).

He is a first class idiot. He said: “On the previous evening I drank a lot of chuhai.” He should be kicked out from police force. Why not giving him job as toilet cleaner in police station Boozers will always stay next to liquid, so just as well give him bucket and mop with tooth brush.

"Just do as I say, don't do as I do" seems to be the way this police officer interpreted the law.

*********More than likely you are still legally drunk.

Be extra harsh on him as he is a police officer and should know better. This is not leading by example.

    Yelnats:

Not in my experience. After 12 hours, the alcohol should be broken down. If not, you are probably dead.
