Tragic story. Thoughts and prayers are with Yukari Ogino's family, and may Yukari rest in peace. I pray the killer is found quickly.

Makes me wonder if Yukari notified the police of soemone stalking her, and if the policedid anything other than showing her the door?

She's missing since Wednesday, her apartment burns down on Thursday, and then an investigation begins on Saturday. Something is wrong here or some information is missing. When was her body actually found?

According to Japanese media reports, she was found dead in the burned out apartment, but a post mortem exam revealed that she had died before the fire. There was also evidence of stab wounds, but no knife was found in the apartment.

So, scumbag murders this girl, then sets a fire to cover it up.

Nikkeiboy. Good reading. Maybe they found the body after the building had cooled down, then looked at the body for a day, then started the investigation on Saturday. If it had been a suicide, it would have gotten a hush treatment, probably.

Oh, I guess Alan has it down. The timeline seems reasonable.

Molenir. Fire is great for this purpose. If it does not destroy the body entirely, it can really mess up the evidence. I do not want to be too gross, but heat degrades DNA evidence rapidly, so the police are going to have to rely on getting the right guy. The only downside for the murderer is that arson raises the stakes, but after a murder, that does not concern people much.

    It is really sad.

What a tragic shame. I don't remember reading anything about a Chiba fire last week -- did I just miss it? You'd think a fire involving a fatality would have made headlines. Then I think I could wrap my head a little better around the timeline involved.
