I am very glad that the western media too is reporting on this issue of Greenpeace's theft. This is a very nasty organization.

TV Asahi commentators all agree that Greenpeace was foolish. http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=FnrcvHNPXwo

There is no conclusion yet about the alledged embezzlement by whaling crew, but if they are found to have done wrong, I hope their company handles the incident properly, and if the law has been broken, I hope the police get involved with that case too. However, from what I have seen, it seems that Greenpeace may have acted deliberately so as to generate western media attention. I think Greenpeace cares little about the reputation of Greenpeace in Japan, but they wish much to have lots of donations from anti-whaling western nations. Perhaps they have chosen to sacrifice Greenpeace's Japan branch for the sake of their donation collection activities around the world.

I don't understand your take on this. If huge amounts of whalemeat are being embezzled, that means there is less whalemeat left over for you to hope to eat through legitimate channels. You should be spitting fire at the thought of the institutionalised theft that Kyodo Senpaku and the icr have been turning a blind eye to for ages. Those thieving crewmen have been snaffling meat that should have been available for people like you to buy.

You should be angry at that. Unless of course you are happy to pay for under-the-counter goods.

oh man, what are they gonna do with it? eat it and fertilize their veggie patch with it as a way to give the supposed mass brutal inhumane slaughter some kind of life giving essence? probably

That is right. If there has been any wrongdoing, it must be dealt with appropriately.

The matter is still under investigation.

It cannot be dealt with at all if it is not brought to light.

Thank you, Greenpeace, for bringing this matter to light.

The matter is still under investigation.

Let's hope it doesn't take them as long to investigate this matter as it is taking them to investigate the size of the Antarctic whale population.

I'll look forward to your fire-spitting when the investigation comes up with results.

Indeed, if wrong has been done, we must thank Greenpeace for exposing it.

However in any case, we must also criticise Greenpeace for commiting crimes, and more so if their claims are false.

Today Kyodo Senpaku has said that their internal investigations confirmed the crew member in question had received the portions of whale meat belonging to other crew members with their permission.

So far, I have no "fire-spitting" for whaling crew members, but of course I will wait for the final investigation results.

Perhaps, you should also give your opinion on the matter of Greenpeace's alledged crimes.

Do you have a link to that? Or did someone just write it up on an anonymous blog again?

As for Greenpeace's alleged crime (singular, only one box taken), if they took someone's private property home and ate it or sold it on, that would be theft. Intercepting a box of stolen property and promptly delivering it to the Public Prosecutor's office is surely in a different category. Unorthodox, and risky, and definitely annoying for the original thieves, but nothing more.

How would you suggest they should bring this matter to the attention of the authorities, bearing in mind the fact that Kyodo Senpaku and the icr seem to have known about the embezzlement all along, and simply turned a blind eye? Once the evidence has been distributed around the country, it's simply a case of we-say-the-say.

    I am afraid, only Japanese:

If I were a police officer or professional investigator, I could give you a good answer.

But I do not think commiting crime is justified when attempting to discover other crime.

They could have attempted to purchase the meat from the crew member. This way, they need not have trespassed on Seino's property and stolen the package. They seem desperate for new propaganda to promote their campaign against whaling. Maybe they lost the ability to think objectively, and fooled themselves into believing they had uncovered a serious scandal, to the point of creating a scandal with their own crimes.

Thank you for the links. So, not an independent report, but Kyodo Senpaku (alleged to be in on the fiddle, if only in turning a blind eye, so hardly an unbiased source) saying what one would expect them to say. We really need them and the icr to hand their books over for independent inspection, to see if they balance. I'd bet a cardboard box full of salted dead whale that they don't, not by a long chalk.

Maybe they lost the ability to think objectively, and fooled themselves into believing they had uncovered a serious scandal

Or maybe they aren't the ones fooling themselves, and they did uncover a serious scandal?

The circumstances are under investigation, it is a good thing. Kyodo Senpaku / ICR should produce documentation to affirm their statements.

My comment is just that Greenthieves Japan seemed to become over-excited, and prematurely drew a conclusion, and finally they behave in a criminal way.

They ought to keep their heads clear before taking such serious actions, or simply call professionals with their suspicions, or attempt non-criminal investigation techniques, such as attempting to purchase the meat from the crew. They would not find themselves in such an embarrasing situation if they had been acting more normally.

Makes me wonder about those beef inspections being done by the Japanese here. I mean without cameras or some other kind of survellience device, it's quite easy for the Japnese to make claims against American beef suppliers. I say throw the book at greenpeace ! Cruisin' through privte property looking for this and that don't float in any country, why should it here in Japan !

The video above shows Greenpeace member Junichi Sato saying that he ate whale meat for his investigation. He says he will not comment on whether it was tasty or not.
