Cop arrested for robbing two apartments in Chiba

A police officer in Tokyo's Ueno district, under arrest for robbing a Chiba apartment in October, has been served a second arrest warrant for breaking into a woman's apartment in Chiba in June and threatening her with a knife.

According to Tokyo metropolitan police, the first incident occurred at around 3:30 a.m. on June 16. The officer, identified as Takahiro Hayashi, 35, entered the second-floor apartment through an open balcony window, TV Asahi reported Saturday.

While brandishing a knife, Hayashi allegedly threatened a 23-year-old woman who woke up, telling her not to scream or he would kill her. Hayashi then stole the woman's underwear and a large sum of cash and fled the apartment.

The victim, who lived alone, told police she had never met the officer before. She received cuts to her hand and fingers from Hayashi's knife.

On Oct 29, police said Hayashi committed a second similar crime in which he broke into an apartment in Matsudo City and stole a high-end video camera, TV Asahi reported.

Hayashi was arrested on Nov 4 and has admitted to robbing both apartments, police said, adding that the woman's underwear was found in his locker.

Hayashi was quoted by police as saying he had been stressed out at work.

A senior Ueno police official apologized to the public for Hayashi's actions. Hayashi joined the police force in 2006.

Wow, I'm stressed at work too but I don't commit crimes. Crimes by those who should protect us are especially heinous.

This police officer works for the Community Safety Section of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. He is being charged with rape and robbery for the June incident. The crime of betraying the trust of its citizens is immeasurable.

Doubtful he will be returning as a policeman anytime soon.

"To serve and to protect..." (?)

Burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, multiple offenses. I bet he gets a warning and a 10% reduction in pay for three months.

As soon as I saw the headline, I knew he was going to have have stuffed his pockets with underwear. How woefully predictable these sad little perverts are.

The headline is a bit misleading... He didn't "rob" any apartments of stuuf, he broke in, threatened the women inside with death and left with their underwear. He's a Class-A pervert and should be tried as such. Who hires these clowns anyway? Seems like they take it n anyone who practiced judo atbsome point in life. Don't they have tests rootingnout the weirdos from the mentally sane in the Japanese Police force? Aptitude and all that has not yet arrived here?

Even though this guy got caught, it's slightly troubling to know there are plenty of people like him walking the streets and "protecting" us...

"A senior Ueno police official apologized to the public for Hayashi’s actions. Hayashi joined the police force in 2006. " The Ueno area is publicly hot with crime these days: Dargons and Yaks running around nibbling at everything to get swager-ironically they blame abenomics (sic)

Your comment is completely misleading. He took personal property AND cash so "rob' is the perfect word to use.

Hayashi then stole the woman’s underwear and a large sum of cash and fled the apartment.
