Couple stabbed while sitting in car in parking lot

Police in Itabashi Ward, Tokyo, said Monday that a couple sitting inside their car in the parking lot of an apartment complex was suddenly attacked by an unknown individual who stabbed them repeatedly before fleeing the scene.

According to police, the husband and wife in their 40s were attacked just as they were returning home at around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, TV Asahi reported. Police quoted the couple as saying that the assailant approached the car and called to the husband who opened the driver's seat door. The man then lashed out with a knife, repeatedly stabbing the couple. The husband was stabbed in his neck and arm, while the wife who had been sitting in the passenger seat, sustained injuries to her face, police said. Neither of the two victims, however, sustained life-threatening injuries.

Police said the suspect fled the scene on a motorbike. He was described as being 150 cms tall, with shoulder-length white hair, and was wearing sunglasses and a mask at the time of the incident.
