What a pity, the Japanese book of judicial rules that decides punishment must be written in pencil or maybe not written at all. The judge’s personal opinions can reduce a cold blooded murderer's sentence because of an alleged sympathy killing.
Mr.Niida is an idiot and so is the "judge" ruling on this case. Who in the hell would even think of taking their own wife's life? Then killing his own 9 year old son? These sound like very sick and twisted individuals indeed! I do not want this type of scum bag to live anywhere near me when he is supposedly to go free in 14 not 19 years?
Why don't they let him continue with the suicide part? In fact, being that he has made his suicide intentions known, they should go ahead and help him die!!
Ya know, now that I think about this, since she wanted to die, why is he even in prison at all? Just for murdering his kid? What kind of crime is that? I mean come on, they ought to release him, and name him father of the year! This is a man everyone should strive to emulate. I'd like to especially encourage the father of the Judge in the case to do so. /sarcasm
Another example of Japan's pathetic justice system. This should be an automatic death sentence, not a measly 14 years in jail. Or less in other cases.
If the guy wants to commit suicide you would think that, after murdering only his son, the state would be kind enough to offer him a sword to fall on. And, perhaps, assist.
Once again, can mark this done to Japanese culture. This certainly has a historical origin to it which can seen carried into today's society.
Suicide to atone for your own failings or someone within your group (and to think, we have another anniversay of the 47 ronin coming up very soon too). And society agrees with it and allows it to continue (as seen by the judge's ruling). Truly sad that a supposedly modern society is still at this level.

What kind of law are these judges practicing...?
This is ridiculous...
All your arguments about how Japan is truly a civilized and adult country just went out the window...

So murder in Japan is not so bad if it's requested. It's the impoliteness of murdering someone without them wanting to die that really irks.
There is something else going on here. Money being paid to someone or something like that.
