"He was arrested on suspicion of violating the child pornography law. Isn't this where you come in and state what the penalties/punishment is under the current Japanese law and to compare that with other nations to determine whether it's severe enough or not?"

Nah, nigelboy, I'm sure he'll be let go for having 'suffered enough' or get a 'suspended sentence' (with punishment enough). Or maybe he'll just be let go like the young thieves (who are not legal! haha) who stole the senior's purse. Anyway, once you answer my question on the door-to-door admittance thing and how it works in Japan for people convicted, I'll start working on answering YOUR questions. Won't hold my breath though, nigelboy.

In the meantime, I'll continue to condemn this man for what he's done, and condemn any one who would defend him. I think the other two recent child-porn cases are still in the 'popular threads' column, too.

"Hyogo woman arrested for taking porn photos of 2-year-old daughter"

"Saitama day care center chief arrested over child porn"

"Chiba man admits to assaulting over 100 young girls"

    Less than a week...

Brilliant gem from smithinjapan. Let me guess. Couldn't find the link that translated this particular Japanese law in Enlgish? Can't read the statistics provided by NPA?

So what's left? Citing an unrelated case from JT crime section? Citing two child porn cases in Japan? Heck. Anybody with a laptop can cite these for any other country including yours.

  • smithinjapan at 12:43 AM JST - 17th June

nigelboy: I was backing up the fact that within any given week you have at least that many reports... those are within 6 days, and yes, in JT's crime section. I'm glad you agree it's a brilliant gem. I thought it was just pointing out fact, but thank you.

Seriously, nigelboy, any comment at all about the day care center professional with all the kiddy-porn pics? No condemnation whatsoever about a man who looks after kids every day potentially eyeing them up with the same lust he admires his pics with, and wishes to upload others to porn sites? And it's not just, "suspicion", as you say, but the article itself says this:

"According to the police, Takahashi sent eight photos of girls to the website via a cell phone in late October 2007. “I wanted to exchange images with other people,” Takahashi was quoted as saying."

You have no trouble with this man doing what he did? Just want to set the record straight, since you've never stated anything about the article itself (never have for any, actually, but there's always a chance to start).

"Anybody with a laptop can cite these for any other country including yours."

Actually, according to sarcasm you can't find anything on childporn in Japan at all... that was part of the point (as well as the numerous threads of Japan porn cases every week). Try to get it.

  • smithinjapan at 01:03 AM JST - 17th June

nigelboy: "Your "back up" is comical. Only in JT where you get away with this sort of rubbish in a forum because thank god there are more people like you."

Hahaha... nice try. Only on a site like this can you take such a nationalistic stand and get your hat handed to you, unlike on the Japanese sites where you're cheered on.

The week before, since you asked:

"Man wanted in Japan for child porn offense faces trial in Thailand" (related) "Thai police arrest Japanese man wanted for child pornography offense"

Beyond that it was all about the courts saying they couldn't promise to keep the pedophiles' victims' names secret from the jury, etc. And lest we forget, as has been said by pretty much every poster on here besides you and sarcasm that it's the laws (or lack of them) here that don't allow for better reporting. If these are reported there are likely hundreds more incidents.

Moderator: Smithjapan, nigelboy, please stop sniping at each other.

It's amazing that people will come onto this site, almost come to the defense of this man, and get angry at people for pointing out the lax laws in this country related to child-porn and pushing things like 'lolita' fashion... even pushing them OVERSEAS!

    Amazing...

Japan: It's not illegal to possess child porn, only to share it or sell it... Aaarrghh, for god's sake, is this true? Didn't know, but honestly, this is really really sick...

It's true! But others on this topic will tell you it's the same in YOUR country!

Moderator: Other countries are irrelevant to this discussion. Stay on topic please.

Data available but not accessible to all. Some child porn sites have free access. Even now, the little ones are lured by predators using candies and expensive toys and the whole process is filmed using hidden cameras. Processing of videos are most of the time done at private homes located in mansions with security. In many instances, simple conversations with the people you meet at work or other acquaintances, you can identify the ommon traits of culprits.

The Jauthorities will not do anything about this because it is factor that affects the GDP and GNP of the country.

is that why a lot of "salaryman" trashes their JUMP magazines after reading them for fear of being caught in posession of "child pornography"?

is that why a lot of "salaryman" trashes their JUMP magazines after reading them for fear of being caught in posession of "child pornography"?

Jump is child porn now? A book of cartoons primarily for children? I think you have weird definitions. I don't think this cat was arrested for uploading something from Jump.

smithinjapan, you don't seem to have understood what I wanted to say in my post. I am not saying there is no problem in Japan, quite on the contrary. I am saying there is no data on it, and not a single Japanese will believe you when you start on this subject.

"Well, just ask the friend, when he shows you, to take you to a 'lolita cafe' in small-town anywhere, Japan."

You will be greeted with laughter. Is THAT the kind of "porn" you are talking about while the data shows that the West is responsible for the large majority of far more hideous child porn crimes?? That is what you will hear, my dear friend.

"You're not going to find too many stats on child porn in Japan when: a) they often don't press charges, and b) often don't even consider it criminal."

Again, you will be asked for data. If you can't find data on Japanese child porn websites, you will start looking for international organisations claiming Japan is doing a slacky job. You will, however, not find any. I dare you to find any.

"Of course he/she will, because child molestation and pornography laws are very, very strict and print any and all instances of it across the media and neighbourhoods where said criminals reside."

Or, because - as they will put it - such crimes are occuring far more often in the West than in Japan. After all, that is what the data shows. If you have other, I am sure they would like to see it.

"Bottom line is where the laws are lax and/or non-existent, you're not going to have too many records of them being broken, are you?"

I agree with you 100%. Well, how will you support your claims to your Japanese friends? You will need to look for data from international organisations. Yet, you will find little to nothing that supports your claim.

"we all know about the Japanese woman selling her 2 year-old daughter's porn pics the other day!"

Yes, we do. But your Japanese friend will find 10 such cases in the West. What will you say?

"Nope. It'll be that I'm correct, and more importantly it'll be correct because Japanese law refuses to change."

I am sure you are, but you have NOTHING to back up your claim. They have. So, they will consider themselves to be correct. You are therefore, wrong.

"I haven't done a search for kiddie-porn-Japan like you have"

Keep it clean, Smithy. You are acting emotionally. Not a word in what I wrote implied I did a search for kiddie-porn.

all i know is walking through akihabara one day a few years ago i saw some (softcore) child porn openly on display on a sidewalk rack for all to see.

i pointed it out to my japanese wife and she sadly shrugged and said 'yeah it's terrible. what can you do? this is japan.'
