I'm surprised and glad to see that this country has the death penalty with all the murders escalating. 16 people should also be equivalent to 1 person who commits murder. It seems like all the culprits that are committing murders won't have to face harsh penalties.
keep 'em swinging in my opinion.Wish my own country had the balls to offer a bit of neck-stretching too. This bloke completely deserves it and he already supposedly has a death wish.Do the guy a favour.
Hanging is too good for this one and most killers. I would give him an extremely hot prison cell for the rest of his life. Surely he will be getting an eternal one after he dies too.
maybe a lot of texans or just americans contribute to this particular news story. The death penalty is wrong. It serves no purpose. What killing a killer somehow justifies the deterrent? Come on, even George W isn't that dumb? Pro life, all life is precious. Prison for life is REAL punishment not an easy existence, check out what Amnesty International says about the 'cruel treatment' to death row inmates in Japan.
If the death penalty is right why do MOST country NOT use it? Just countries with special needs? Civilization IS judged on how it treats it's prisoners.
Hakamada Iwao has been on death row in Japan for 40 years!

No, this is one very small aspect of how "Civilized Nations" are judged,
but there are many other, more important factors, than how a country treats its prisoners...
How about a fair trial..?
How about equal punishment for equal crime, regardless of WHO commits the crime...?
If you are a foreigner and commit a crime in Japan, you will receive a much harsher punishment than a National would... Certainly NOT true in many other "Civilized Western Nations." Maybe in the Philippines, Mexico, or China that would be true, but then again, Japan really wants to be a "Grown-Up" member of the International community, and not be treated like a 10 year old.
In Japan, they need to work on the "Fair Trial" part first before worrying about any sentences..
