Denny's shooting suspect found dead in car in Chiba

CHIBA —

The suspect in the shooting of a former gang member at a Denny’s restaurant in Chiba Prefecture on Monday was found dead in a car in Kujukuri town, Chiba Prefecture, on Thursday morning. Police said he had apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot, TBS reported.

The man was identified as Chong Yong Bom, 65, a gang member wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of 62-year-old Yoshiaki Furukawa in the Denny’s restaurant at the Toganei bypass at 10 a.m. on Monday. Chong fled in a car after the shooting.

According to TBS, a passerby saw Chong slumped in the car in a parking lot at about 7 a.m. and called police. An automatic gun was found on the seat beside him. Police verified his identity from fingerprints. A police spokesman said early indications are that Chong shot himself in the head.

Sounds very sad but he did the best thing for all of us and for his North Korean relatives here in Japan, I was worried he would try to escape to the North Korean University in my part of Tokyo.

If he had been the victim, the police would have used his Japanese name Tomio Ishikawa.

That's what you get for being a criminal... foreignized.

Whoa, Elbunda; you're letting the Norcs off too light. I was worried he would try to buy some North Korean shochu, play pachinko at a North Korean pachinko parlor, have yakiniku, and develop North Korean nuclear weapons before kidnaping my Korean Jindo dog to North Korea.

    What'd I miss?

I'm assuming a lot, I know, but it doesn't sound too much like suicide:

Fact I know - he was in a K-car light van. K-car seats are very narrow, no room for a person AND somethnig else.

Assumption - he was found in drivers seat dead (assuming he drove somewhere, and pulled trigger). Assumption - he is right handed (just guessing)

If he shot himself in the head, his arm would have fallen back down to his right (both by natural linkages in his arm and also by recoil of the gun), which means it would be on his lap or in the space between the seat and drivers door. However, the gun was found "on the seat next to him" which suggests it was to his left. Either he is left handed (no reason to belive he isn't) or someone "helped" him! Or he wasn't in the driving seat, in which case, why?

Not a nice way to go btw.

There is a big difference between suicide and suicided, but its just one letter to a J-cop so I don't expect an in depth investigation when they could be warm in snug in the police station instead.

Not very prosperous gangsters if they're eating at Denny's....

"former gang member"- one of those "you can join, but you can't quit" deals?

Suicide? Doubt it. Get CSI on the case!

If they went so far as to stage the suicide, I doubt they left much for CSI to uncover that would point to anything OTHER than a suicide.

I doubt the police are much interested if it wasn't a suicide. Two dead yaks, all with a nice bow on it. Why cause trouble?

    "Why cause trouble?"

Because enquiring minds want to know. Really though, was it your typical "I lived above him and he made too much noise, so I killed him." or something more intriguing. Somebody get to the bottom of this so I can get on to the next show.

I assume you're joking as the Japanese police aren't trained in crime scene investigation same as they are disinclined to have autopsies performed - might mean they'd have to do actual police work.

What's an automatic gun? A gun with a timer shooting?
