A man under arrest, who was temporarily released to attend a family member's funeral, has been recaptured after three days on the run, Nara prefectural police said.
Hideki Iida, 50, who was arrested for unlawful possession of stimulant drugs, was temporarily released last Saturday in order to attend his brother's funeral in Sakurai, Nara Prefecture, Fuji TV reported. However, he fled when he was on the way back to the police station with his lawyer.
Police handed out flyers and a report was made to police at around 4:30 pm on Tuesday, saying that there was a person who looked like Iida in a parking lot near a train station in Yamatotakada City. When police arrived, they found Iida alone. He was wearing a white jacket, blue jeans and sneakers, which were different from the clothes he had on when he escaped.

Brilliant deduction Watson!
Who would have ever thought that someone who is escaping from police custody would want to change their appearance!

Idiot! So, let's see.... possession of stimulant drugs. OK, no doubt there would be punishment. But, clearly, he has not been tried and convicted yet. So, there was hope on that front.
Now??? He will have the book thrown at him for that original charge, plus the charge for the escape. Oh, and he fled while with his lawyer. Which means his "lawyer" will have zero credibility with the court.
Idiot!

What was bad is that he was found in the same thrift shop chain Kaihou Sokou where the man a few months ago kidnapped a girl from the restroom. It is like a maze in those shops and seems to be easy to get away with stuff.

Serious waste of taxpayers money for that entire thing. Send the guy to rehab and fix the problem.

Or let him out on bail so he has a chance to build a defense.
Or just leave him alone.

for God's sake, he's a drug addict, japanese news treat the case as a "very dangerous criminal on loose" facepalm

Don't bring me into this...

He possessed and most likely did drugs. That does not make him an addict. That makes him a user and/or a dealer.

Under arrest should mean loss of rights, sure I feel sympathy for the loss of a family member, but he apparently screwed up to be in jail, it's then his fault if he misses such an important event....
He simply should not have been allowed to go.
